Since EVERYTHING is about politics now I don't think Congress has the stomach to pass a relief package for the masses with its Trillon plus price tag. As much as they don't want airline employees on the street they may have a helluva time convincing the millions of other voters why they gave money to one industry and not everyone else. I'll ask this rhetorical question. What are you hearing from friends/acquaintances etc outside the industry on their feelings toward more financial support for the airlines?

For the most part nobody has the faintest idea about airline bailouts, except for my frequent-flyer brother-in-law who reads travel publications. Remember, lots of other people are getting bailouts too (handouts in some cases).

The point is to keep critical economic infrastructure intact, which is logical and reasonable... the no-furlough thing was a purely a political side-effect.

A U.S. Senate Republican coronavirus spending proposal set to be introduced on Tuesday will not include any new government assistance for U.S. airlines or airports, two congressional aides told Reuters.

Must be my circle of friends that read too much...lol... I get what you're saying on the infrastructure but I have hard time defending 600 bucks a week for most that's already gone away versus the substantially higher payout of government/taxpayers money to airline workers and yes some others. Even for those not paying attention it see showing up in some political ad for a candidate eventually. I hear people comparing to the too big to fail automaker bailouts. I think by now we've seen by how many pax say they HAVE to fly and it somewhere south of 1 million a day based on TSA numbers. Critical infrastructure absolutely but its time for the industry to right size. How much longer should taxpayers foot the bill?

I just want to point out something not quite correct here. While the $600 per week unemployment money from the fed is over, that was in ADDITION to what state unemployment gave. For a while, a lot of people were making more from unemployment than they made from their former jobs... a lot more. And that was to do nothing. I don't think many airline employees can say that over the last six months.

Other than that, I agree with your take. Many people are negatively comparing it to the auto and bank bailouts. You even see people stating as such here on APC. If people here are complaining about it, then you know there's a lot more non-aviation types that complaining too.

Not terribly surprising. Of course the Senate can't enact a law without the House's cooperation, so we'll see what the House comes up with.

Bill was shot down in part due to complete lack of worker protections at any level.
