Qantas expects to require international pax to be vaccinated, discussing "vaccine passport".

I don’t see any good coming from this. Major headaches...

I think Qantas views is it as a means to ensure their own government doesn't shut down their customer base as a virus vector. They'd rather have fewer, vaccinated customers than no customers. Actually the vaccine requirement will appeal to many customers as well.

Each of these countries have had substantially less damage to their economies, people, and health systems. They were able to better mitigate the virus. It stands to reason that they would want to limit their chances for massive outbreaks going forward. With an effective vaccine going forward they shouldn’t have to accept those potential risks.

Those of us with yellow cards are probably less concerned about this type of requirement since there are already requirements for travel to other countries and we know it’s nothing new. We likely will also just get the shot and move on.

It's a reasonable safety measure. Businesses are certainly free to require it (unless federal legislation is implemented which says otherwise).

And yet some airlines are -- with no government involvement.

A vaccine passport will be required to travel on some airlines, not others. Just like masks and blocked middle seats.

And the market will sort it out.

Currently, health care providers can’t even release immunization data without patient approval except to schools in states it’s required by law. And when it is released, it carries all the privacy protection requirements of HIPPA.

Who wants the liability of getting their IT system hacked and then being prosecuted under HIPPA?

Have you never traveled to a country that requires a vaccine? A vaccine passport is pretty common for international travel. Proof of vaccination is not a violation of HIPPA. No company needs a database of health records. They just have to look at your vaccine passport. No different than verifying a service animal or someone's oxygen requirements before they board.

If you don't want to provide that information, then don't get on the plane.
