Domestic Travel Covid Testing

So, the new administration is considering covid testing requirements for all domestic flights now. This will be an industry killer. Yesterday we were already at our lowest TSA screenings since July of last year. Now, Biden is looking at further restricting air travel. Looking forward to my unemployment check. Thanks to all who voted in and supports these morons.

That would be bad, unless the fed implements a standardized testing system nationwide. That would probably need a secondary testing protocol to quickly confirm positives... the threat of a false positive seems to be a big road-block for many.

Such a testing scheme would need to be quick, cheap and have an EXTREMELY low false positive rate.

Or maybe this is part of their plan to reduce carbon emissions.

Meh, the article states they are 'looking at it' and nothing more. Various options are often explored even if brief and later tossed aside. There is so much to fix from the failed response & vaccination shortcomings the previous admin left behind, no way money & resources will be spent trying to get a domestic travel testing program going. It would be a true logistical nightmare.

Why wouldnt they leave it to the airlines to figure out. Please show up to the airport 4 hrs in advance to get covid testing for your 1 hr flight. Many would drive if that was the case.

Yahtzee. Policy effects like this are a feature, not a bug when you're harming a climate irresponsible industry like aviation.

Except for business aviation. Need to get to Aspen and Davos.

This will kill off any last minute travel plans for people.

As of now this is simply an idea. It isn’t 100% guaranteed to happen. I’m sure ALPA and Airline Execs have already been speaking out against this and informing the Admin this wouldn’t be a great thing.

They should go ahead and tell the Admin that raising gas prices when airlines are struggling isn’t helping either, but we know they won’t do that. The airlines are in a world of hurt and the hits keep coming.

I just feel a lot more planning goes into international travel versus a last minute business trip to Cedar Rapids to close a deal or the bros buying last minute tickets to Vegas to reenact scenes from the Hangover. Just seems like you’d lose a lot of that market when the airlines are struggling already

I agree. I can’t imagine this actually getting out into action. What, the government spends $50B keeping airline employees at work only to turn around and intentionally crater demand just as we’re pulling into the home stretch? I don’t have a lot of faith in these people, but I’m gonna try to give them a little more credit than that.
