Delta Pilot involved in jetway fight

In an ATL jetway.

http://m.tmz.com/#article/2017/04/29/delta-pilot-hits-passenger-fight-video-atlanta-airport/

Guy should be embarassed. First off, that is not how you break up a fight. Second you are on tape hitting a woman. Lastly there are cameras out everywhere.

This is absolutely stupid on the part of this pilot. He wasn't even involved for starters.

I wonder if said passengers were on our "basic economy" fare. Aka the fare class we have set aside to steal customers from Spirit. Too soon?

How to get rich in America part 25. Act stupid, get thrown off a plane. SUE!

TEN

Maybe the brand won't be tarnished because he had his hat on, at least he looked professional while he was acting stupidly.

crewdawg 04-29-2017 09:40 AM

If only the article told the bigger story....the trash of our society who can't act mature and civil in public, do what they do, and fight like children. Bystander steps in to break the strangle hold that one of said trash had on other trash.

WhiskeyDelta 04-29-2017 09:42 AM

Word is the pilot was removed from duty but then reinstated after a brief investigation. The women chose not to press charges against anyone. That's a good move because their behavior caused all of this.

Good to hear for him. Be smart out there, on a 100+ pax plane about 98% of the pax have a camera ready at all times.

Maybe it is time for us to remove our basic economy fare from the menu.

So did Dr. Dal's.

Too bad it didn't work out the same way.

Fdxlag2 04-29-2017 09:48 AM

Perhaps a bucket of water should be kept hanging on the jet way in case of fire or uncontrollable emotions.

LNL76 04-29-2017 09:49 AM

The title of this thread is incorrect!

That said, I guess we as crew members are damned if you do...and damned if you don't.

I swear, this ridiculous behavior on the part of the passengers lately is worse than how pre-schoolers behave. Jesus...

Sorry, I simply used the title that is in the link. I agree with all of your points. It is ludacris behavior by the general public.

No worries! :)

I guess we can add referees/bouncers to our resumes. Seriously, I think this is only the tip of the iceberg and it will be a long, hot, nasty summer.
(sooo glad I work charter!)

Why do I have a mental image of SWA execs cowering in a corner somewhere repeating, "please don't let it be us next, please don't let it be us next......." :D

I highly doubt it. This wasn't pax vs airline. It was pax vs pax and the employee attempted to intervene and stop it. As I said before, he's already back on duty. That wouldn't be the case if this was on the United doctor level.

But...it's only a matter of time before any airline can and will out do United [emoji3]

Getting involved is pretty silly but if you look closely the pilot didn't hit the woman, he hit her forearm that she was using to try and choke the other woman.

Either way, you won't see me getting involved in any fight. Let stupid beat up on stupid for all I care. APD can take care of it...

BobZ 04-29-2017 11:15 AM

for a minute I thought it was an lax preflight FA duties assignment briefing:D

qball 04-29-2017 11:15 AM

Look at the title. It's not "Pilot Tries To Break Up Passenger Fight" (of course this is TMZ).

Stand back and let the two audition for Jerry Springer. Of course then the title would be "Pilot Stands Idly By While Two Innocent Passengers Try To Choke Each Other Out".

tunes 04-29-2017 11:33 AM

896 9:30 AM PT -- A rep for Delta tells us ... "We became aware of this incident and a video last week and immediately removed the pilot from duty while we completed a thorough investigation. Local law enforcement was called to respond at the time of the incident. The pilot has since been returned to work as our investigation found that his actions deescalated an altercation between passengers on the jetway floor during deplaning."

We're told the women in the vid had gotten into a skirmish earlier, on the airplane, and they knew each other. They were eventually escorted away by a Delta employee, and as they were walking away, cops showed up. We're told neither of the women wanted to press charges against anyone.

Too bad they didn't choke each other to death. Two less vermin in our society. The DLA captain was just trying to keep the peace. That should teach him not to take his attention away from monitoring guard frequency even while at the gate!

:D Sorry, couldn't resist.

Does anyone know what the winds were in the jetway? Did ANYONE get a wind check? :)

United employees thank the double-breasted jetway commando for taking some of the pressure off.

I really don't think it will. It's a weekend, it's reported by TMZ, and I think the news cycle obliterated one airline for the time being.

It's us at Delta who should thanking United for taking the public's eyes off our April 5th meltdown!

Every other airline was reporting smooth in the jetway and DAL reported moderate chop!!!

What was the guy's GPA? :D

The important part:

At least he was wearing his HAT!

TiredSoul 04-29-2017 01:38 PM

At last we have a pilot willing to step in.
I'm going to be nice and not call anybody names but if you have Atlanta trash of Jerry Springer quality duking it out like real proper ladies do then...it's time to do something.
I'm still saying the United cappie shoulda clocked the FA

It really is turning into a 'thing.'

Don't get involved. If something is going on, go back in the cockpit-and stay the hell in it!

We are not trained for this stuff, and absolutely anything we do will be viewed in the wrong light.

If you ever see me in a video, I won't be saying a damn thing or throwing a punch.

I'll be the hot young piece of ass working the stripper pole at the nursing home.

Bingo! No matter what you do it will be blamed on you. Walk outside and pretend you're doing a walk around. When you step back in they'll either all be gone, they'll be in a chokehold by the PD, or there will be blood. Either way your career is still intact.

You wanted our passengers, you got em! Good luck with that. We're specially trained to deal with these pieces of garbage at Spirit.
Here's what you do: laugh, keep walking.

Great, as if Delta didn't require enough useless cr@p on your resume to get looked at, now I have to add "able to street fight in pilot uniform". There went my chances.

Sam York 04-29-2017 06:46 PM

New required flight bag equipment:

https://m.dickssportinggoods.com/p/e...2FWhite%2FGold

First safety vests now boxing gloves. Of course the pilot can order the optional boxing robe at their expense. Twin Hill clothing indicated they'd have a double breasted robe available for Delta pilots.

I wonder if they will reintroduce the small informational: "Seven Ways To Immobilize Your Opponent With A Delta Blankie."

Pilot did the right thing.

You have an obligation to protect passengers.

Devils advocate: imagine the video shows the alteration, but the pilot glibly passing by then the brawling women fall on and injure an innocent toddler standing in the jetway.

Or the video shows the pilot looking on while one of the brawlers is choked to death.

I'm proud this guy works for Delta. These are confusing times.

What we do need going forward is a plan to deal with the combination of entitled, billegerent passengers and ubiquitous video without context.

Might be time to leave full airplanes at the gate with the explanation that tying the hands of airline employees to govern the situation makes it impossible for us to operate with even one uncooperative passenger.

9easy 04-29-2017 08:52 PM

Although I can't stand Delta and their self aggrandizing culture, it is nice to see airline management standing behind their pilot and having his back in a situation like this.
