Global Entry
Moving to the 320 in a bit, and I've heard GE is highly recommended.
How much lead turn should I give it to apply, process, etc...? Thanks |

Wear your uniform to the interview: I was expedited and it the whole thing felt like a mere formality.

Some are booked out pretty far and other less busy locations may have slots open next week. I was based in ANC and did mine there prior to a trip. The schedule was pretty much wide open, but my home airport was backed up for weeks. |
I use Mobile Pass app(it's free) and often beat my Captain with GE to the exit. YMMV

Isn't the difference in the crew line going away waldo?
|
Thanks all

Not sure, if it becomes painful I'll fork over the $$ and get GE.

The interview appointment is the only problem. (Anywhere from drop in to one week, depending on location.) The rest is pretty quick for Gob'mint work. Best deal ever. No more pulling out your bath-tme rubber duckey.

A few days ago I walked into a CBP interview location that was booked up for the rest of the year, (in pilot uniform) and the officer was incredibly nice and just took care of it then.
He said that they are going to a process that you apply on line the normal way, but instead of the regular interview there will be a different procedure. The first time you are coming back into the country they will process you as a regular person but that will also act as your interview and you will then be fully enrolled in the system. No idea when that will be effective. |
I never could find an interview time. Just stopped by the Atlanta office during one of my stopovers and waited for like 20 minutes until they had a free moment and they fit me in.
|
I did this a few months ago. Earliest appointment I could get was 4 months out. I ended up doing a walk-in appointment at the ATL airport. I had to leave without doing interview twice due to running out of time while in waiting area. They won't turn you down for a walk-in appointment, but it could take 2-3 hours.
Fwiw, I think it's sucks how our company recommends global entry, but won't pay for it. American and United pay for it for their crew members. |

Although I shouldn't be telling you that, the fewer people who have it the better :p |

I am not getting GE. I do plenty of turns through ATL that start international. A few flights delayed while crews are stuck in customs and they will pay for it. It's the principle of the thing.

$1.67 per month so the company can try to min turn you from an international flight to a follow-on domestic flight and not take a delay? On your dime? Have at it. I'd wait in the customs line. But that's just me. I think that's the point Klondike was trying to make.
I would say that the large majority of crew going through customs are finishing a trip or at least a duty day. GE is absolutely worth it to cut the hassle factor exiting customs, especially then. Sent from my SM-G900T3 using Tapatalk |

It is not going to change how the company builds rotations. Personally, I would rather spend my time between flights doing other things rather than saving $1.67 to prove a point. My time is worth more. Most people that use Global are either finishing a trip or going to the layover.

Its $1.67/month out of pocket. Plus the interview and paperwork drill time.
You don't have to use it even if its in your pocket. So if you feel like using the app or standing in line for some reason...feel free. It also gives you tsa precheck for travel. And probably could put it on the tax deduction list without notice. Best $100 I ever spent so far as work is concerned.:D |
Color me crazy, but the wife and kids have GE also. Makes life much easier when we travel overseas.....which is several times each year. Recommended for all.....

Well...as said before, you could buy Global Entry for you if/when you need it for your benefit (commute home/TSA Pre, etc...) and simply bypass Global Entry and go to the slow lane when you want to stick it to the man...which I believe was the point of your post. Win-Win for you.
I agree its BS company doesnt pay for it (or uniforms, or hotels for newbies, etc). But I got GE for me and for my convenience, not the companies. So far its been well worth it. Ymmv. The "cute" was snarky, apolgies. |
G.E. is great.. If you pay attenion. Whiizzing through ATL yesterday, took the usual route. They changed the G.E. rat maze. Had to start over. Cuidado!
|
I agree with everyone who gets it for themeselves. I don't travel internationally and I try to avoid customs at the end of a trip. For me to get GE it would only be for the turn during the middle of a trip. So I'll be the guy hanging out in the slow lane. Say hello as you go on by!
|
If you're in dtw the Ambassador Bridge office had next day appointments this spring. Just get an Uber or Lyft to go and wait for you took less than 15 minutes.

Amex Platnum cardmembers will have the fee reimbursed if you pay for it with the card. FWIW

My passport has expired. Does any know how to transfer your global entry to your new passport?
