Default open time q trips

How do you post a trip in open time to let others pick it up. (i think this is a q trip?) I read the handbook and still can't figure it out. I was able to post it on the swap board, and have the request in for a personal drop.

It will flow to open time after PD is approved...runs around same times as PCS

thanks, interesting. So if no one picks it up when it is listed as a q trip, does that mean you still are responsible to fly it? What is the purpose of showing it as a q trip?

When you put it in as a PD, but the staffing isn't good enough (black days on any day of the trip), it becomes a Q trip in open time.

People can pick it up (it also shows on the swap board), and if staffing improves it will drop. Otherwise you're on the hook.

Somewhat confusing answer. It will "flow" to open time (meaning the trip was dropped from the pilot's schedule) if a personal drop is approved, which means the reserve availability was sufficient to grant the PD.

It will become a "Q" trip listed in open time, because the PD is disapproved, due to lack of reserve availability.

Also, it doesn't run "around the same times as PCS." It IS part of the PCS run.

In this world, precise language matters.

Only shows on the swap board if you post it there separately. I don’t know why you wouldn’t do this but some people don’t.

When I was an FO I flew with CA’s who didn’t even know the Swapboard existed.

I believe that at some point it was considered. Whether it was part of some negotiations, or perhaps some LEC resolution, I just don't know. But it was never implemented.
