Surface 3 Administrator Rights
As usual Delta technology cannot figure out the proper procedures to transfer administrator rights for purchased Surface 3 from Delta to new owner. Has anyone been successful yet?
|
I *just* submitted the form and it sounds like it takes a day or two to send the instructions on how to "De-Delta-ize" the surface? Is that correct? I haven't started the processes yet (except for submitting the form) but what issues are you having?
|
Just use it for target practice....
|
Daughter needed surface 3 for post grad school, so she bought it.
Maybe she will use for target practice later or cutting board🔪 From Delta IT....“A quick note to let you know that we experienced connectivity issues with Airwatch which is preventing the Sync command to fully execute, this has been resolved. Please try again At this point, please complete the “Administrator Rights” steps, we will send you the steps to reset tablet on 07/13/18” Sync command still not working which transfer administrative rights. |

Talked with person in charge of resting the surface. He said that most do have admin rights even though it does not show it. He also said that the server is not equipped to receive 1000 sync queries at once, which is what happened. If you continue to have problems, email the person that sent out the emails, they may set up a conference call to walk people through the process. But wait until the rest of the instructions are emailed on the 13th.

I've had several emails with them too. The last one yesterday acknowledged issues and and said to try again. I've done multiple syncs all day while working on my bid. No luck getting it to show amin rights. |

1) go to Microsoft and download the Windows 10 ISO and USB install tool. Google them. 2) Install the ISO to a clean USB drive, 8 GB min. 3) Shut down the Surface. Insert the USB drive, then power on while holding the volume down button. 4) Will boot from the USB. Format the hard drive and install. |
It makes a great doorstop.

Just skip the stupid...if you want to install Windows from scratch, which will totally mitigate any Delta clutter.

Once you have Admin rights (most will after sync even though it does not show it) Then Delta hits a button or something and it restarts and automatically loads windows 10 operating system. I did this yesterday over a conference call as a small test group. Everything worked just fine. After it finishes reloading windows operating system it is a brand new clean drive. Works great, hopefully lasts long time.

After performing the steps and sync, which took about 15 minutes, my Surface showed the sync as successful but did NOT show that I now had Admin rights.
An email from Delta suggested my Surface probably does now have admin rights even though it is not showing on the tablet profile. The email also said that the reset instructions will now be sent on Monday the 16th "Due to the upcoming weekend". Huh? Because it's Friday the 13th?? Whaaa? They didn't know that a weekend usually follows a Friday? Amatures. |
Is anyone at all surprised by this?

Does this give the owner full admin rights and the ‘correct’ version of windows? Put another way... do we get the same or better result as we would doing it the DL way?
The machine is like you walked out of bestbuy with it. Less garbage ware on it though. You aren’t the administrator, you are the king. |

You formatted the hard drive and installed a vanilla copy of Windows.

Ok, well the reset did work today as advertised. They said they would send the reset command at 1pm but they actually sent it about 12:45, so be ready early!
|
Consider yourself lucky! LOL I used to build PC's and had my own business building them and my son is a software/coding genius. I followed their instructions to the letter and as others also experienced, it didn't show ADMIN Privileges. Even though they assured we had admin privileges, I knew I did not as it's very easy to determine if you do. I followed the instructions to the letter today again and it did not work. I can reset it in a heartbeat if they can give me the BitLocker Recovery Key but alas, they don't have a clue what I'm asking for. They gave me a UUID format code which in no way is a recovery key. LOL They directed me to the CPO for further help. Oh well.
|
Give them a break, they’ve been busy with barn-raisings lately.
|
Is there an email or number for a POC? I filled out the form and never received an email with instructions. I guess i could try to wipe it myself - what could go wrong?
|
The hard drive is encrypted and you need a bitlocker encryption key to wipe the drive. There is a hidden partition (not so hidden )on the drive that I'm certain has the key stored in it but you need admin user name and password to be able to access. I can run an exploit to accomplish what I need but I'm trying to do it the right way. LOL
You can try to wipe the drive and if successful, you'd need to pay for a new Microsoft license which kind of defeats the purpose of them resetting it. Basically, their reset process was them sending a code to give us admin privileges and the second part is a reset whereby a fresh install of W10 is overwritten to the drive with a license key attached. My son and I looked at a lot of the coding that was done and boy it's bad. (From a coding perspective) Spelling errors and such. :D |
Please no releasing cat from bag.

To go above Administrator level for any computer in the US, submit this request:
Пожалуйста, позвольте мне контролировать свой компьютер. Я обещаю проголосовать за клоуна, которого вы, ребята, помогли выбрать. |

Исследуйте, если вам нужно. Я добровольно желаю самостоятельно исследовать и сообщать вам свои выводы. Между тем, вы знали, что есть миллион способов, которыми я мог бы уничтожить вашу Поверхность с этим кольцом, которое я украл у Роберта Крафта. |
They have a problem, more instructions from IT are coming. Just got an email.
|
If you're reset didn't work, there's an email you'll have to send a request to and request the Bit Locker Recovery Key. Don't want to post it on here. They're swamped right now. Somebody made a boo boo!
You can call the help desk and they'll give you the email. |

DL IT; boo boo?! I'm totally floored by that. Finally got the update to the updated update from Beverly at Pilot Assist. S3 finally seems to be doing something as advertised. OFG |
I fear when the reset finally occurs, i will see this:
How are you gentlemen? All your base are belong to us. You are on the way to destruction. What you say?!! |

The latest section 3 instructions worked.
|
Not for me. LOL I made a video to show them. I tried instruction set #3 already yesterday, having done this stuff before, in a different life. Hopefully they can figure it out. I can run a certain program(exploit) and fix it myself, but I'd be on the hook for the new W10 license key.
Until then: Gentlemen, all your base are belong to us. :D:D |
I want my $175 back.
|
So I was actually able to get mine to manually reset using the PDF doc. After it was all set up as new, I used the media to see if it would allow me to do a manual reset (full system install using the W-10 media) and there were 4 partitions on the drive. Boot, Blank, Windows and Recovery.
What are the Boot and the Blank partitions? I know this isn’t windows tech support, I’m just curious if I could reformat the entire drive or just delete the two partitions. |
Section 2 worked for me. I’m requesting $50 credit due to this pain in the a** reset. I Bet when Ipad’s go on sale it will be an easier process but price will be double.

Blank ( Unallocated ) is unused space. If you have your own windows installation flash drive file(with Activation Key), yes you could reformat the drive and then install W10. During that install process you would be able to create your own partitions and adjust their size and name them. C: D: etc.. When you install the OS, it will create a recovery partition. It will also create a boot partition. The boot partition and windows partition work hand in hand. I had to fix one of the two hotel computers we used to stay at in Eagan years ago as a boot file was corrupted. Always keep a install disc (file) hand on hand or else its a mofo fixing it. LOL Hope all is well up in Minniesnowplace |
Thanks for that explanation.
