How do you figure over 60 year old pilots are less than 5 percent? I move up 3000 numbers in the next five years, not to mention guys retire who are junior to me as a ‘97 hire every month.

2091 pilots retiring the next 4 years
Average that is 520 some per year
Out of 14500 or so pilots on the seniority list
Is what ?

2091\14500=14.4%. I’m 55, and on ALPA website I’m 30% now. When I turn 60 I’m top ten percent. Therefore, it’s a lot closer to 20% of the seniority list are over 60 than your 5% number.

I'll turn around the attitude you are expressing in your post, why should I care about Scope? It won't affect me....but I do because it's the right thing to do!
We cannot negotiate an agreement that is going to affect 100% of the pilots 100% of the time within every section. Depending on a pilots demographic some parts will favor some pilots more than others and in different sections it could be vice versa. A well balanced agreement will stand on its own.

I don't know why it matters but in answer to your question 4.5 years.
If you think I'm championing this only for my benefit, you would be wrong. Of course it would benefit me but, as long as it stays in place, it will eventually benefit everyone. You need to look beyond the few years down the road.

I have. While I am not a part of the post 2007 crowd, I was hired very young and still have well over 15 years remaining. I'm pretty sure there are a whole slew of 2007-2008 hires that will retire well before I have and I have at least 1 and sometimes several FOs a month that are older then I am. I know I will benefit from company provided retirement medical benefits if I'm alive to retire at 65. While I won't see any fruits from that for many years, I want it to be there and I think now is a good time to get it. I also think it will help many of the pilots older than myself who are about to retire when it comes to reducing the financial crunch they will have after they retire. I also hope that our medical benefits as active pilots are noticeably improved this cycle.
