That’s crazy, unless you include digitizing your military logbooks which is a huge PITA.
Day 1: I finished with a list of 16.9 pieces of info I needed to dig up...things I had no idea I needed until I tried filling out the apps online for first time. - High school GPA...school closed for summer...let me dig around parents attic for a few weeks looking for old box of HS stuff - driving records for tickets...I’m a mil guy...lots of moves...lots of state DMV’s to contact and then wait for their replies. - fight info: number of PIC sorties....number of IP sorties...approaches...landings....etc etc. I needed my shoes off, an abacus, and a whiz wheel to make all my calculations. - what was the address of the pizza place I worked in during high school? Supervisor name? - Letters of Rec: month 1 ask friend for letter....month 2 gently remind friend you asked for letter....month 3 threaten to donkey punch bro’s entire family if you don’t get the letter...month 4 finally get the letter. - And FINALLY ready for reviewing company xyz to red pen your app, fix all your spelling, grammar, missing dates, etc. Doesn’t happen over night. |
Be sure to tell your friend to refer to pilots as ‘bubbas’, and the plane as the ‘ship’ or preferably ‘the jet’.
Once employed, wear a lanyard proclaiming the branch of service you were in, and reminisce fondly for hours in the cockpit about crud games in the O club, long deployments, and life aboard the ship. Bonus points for starting an interminable story with ‘this one time on the Herc...’ or an AF academy ring. |
Thread hijack, didn't know where best to put this; as a Guard guy I lose credit most months due to MIL leave and puts me below Green Slip threshold. I try to white slip and bid for good credit flying, but still come up short. I'm still fairly new and my seniority is so so....perhaps things will improve as my seniority gets better? Or are MIL guys kinda hosed on green slipping? If I'm being a dunce, I'll wear the hat.
Oh, I tried a little thread surfing, but there are literally thousands of posts in the Delta forum at this point. Thank you |
Look into the difference between MLOA and MLOX

Oh, I tried a little thread surfing, but there are literally thousands of posts in the Delta forum at this point. Thank you Delta wants you to pre-post MLOA, but it usually hurts you more than at helps you. I've stopped trying to do them that favor myself. It's just too costly when my guess about future mil flying turns out to be wrong. If you bid reserve (with nothing pre-posted), and then drop RES days with your MLOA, those dropped MLOA days can be put on to X days instead (so you don't lose guarantee for them), and MLOA becomes MLOX. You can also try to GS on X days (not mlox days) and potentially make more than the guarantee you would get there (and pb days). But if GS don't materialize, you are out there guarantee you would have had. |
I appreciate the input and you both taking the time to respond. For a few reasons I like being a line holder vs reserve...for one thing I sit long call in my crash pad since I cant make the 12 hour call out.
I think my case for getting out at 20 years keeps getting stronger. |
