Open time disappearing

I was monitoring open time for LAX717B, hoping to pick up an out-of-base GS. As of yesterday and into this morning there were five trips in open time, from 2 to 4 days in length, with zero reserves available. This morning they started disappearing. They are all gone now, with nothing showing in Daily Trip Coverage. There is one new trip that showed up in open time, and it subsequently went to a GS. Still nothing for the original five trips. Where did all that flying go? Reroutes? Is this normal? Seems like when I’ve looked before, you can see a trip appear in open time, then see it in coverage later.

They could have covered with reroutes but more likely is they broke them up and moved to other bases.

Just looked at trip coverage in Atl. Looks like several of them ended up there.

They probably went to out of base greenslips or whiteslips. If they pulled them for reroutes that would be illegal since the trips were known about more than 14 hours out. If I were you, I would check into it. I do know a lot of illegal reroutes go out especially when they are short in that category, but most of the time no one knows they are illegally rerouted. I think ALPA needs to step up audits in this area.

If they went out of base green or white, they have to be in the coverage for LAX. If I were to guess, they got covered by out of base reserves. That would show up in the coverage for the base that covered it. Or...CS illegally gave it as a GS or WS to another base.

They covered it with ATL717B reserves

Thanks all. Looks like they went to out of base reserves (ATL). I wasn’t aware that they would show in another base’s coverage.

It’s not illegal to reroute but they are required to follow the trip coverage sequence. Reroute is on the sequence, below GS but above GSWC.

And that, boys and girls, is why they have reserves!
