"Standups are unsafe! Never!"

(oh wait, they pay $1.27/hr more?)

YES! Standups for everyone!

Seriously, standups are ridiculously unsafe. I vote no.

Leather jackets would be better then the trench coat. When folks out west see a person in a trench coat, we think one of two things:

They are going to whip it open and be naked or bust out an AR and start mowing down.
That's a tad melodramatic. Far and away these are easier trips to fly than even the easiest trips at my regional.

You must have come from an atypical regional or been very senior. Our 717 trips are way better than my typical regional trips.

Just keep the current language in regards to them. 10:30 pay for a 2 day. And no one forced to fly them.

With that being said, they can sometimes be a good deal and the people calling them unsafe are being dramatic. They aren't any worse than a 30hr layover circadian flip. Also if an 11hr long international flight is legal and safe with a crappy 3hr nap in a delta one seat or bunk, how is an 11hr (usually less) long duty period with one short flight to an over night, 5-6hrs sleep in a nice hotel bed, and then one short flight home any less safe?

Does this improve efficiency?

That’s only if it’s actually scheduled with that much time on the ground and IF you’re on time. You’re on continuous duty so if you’re late you don’t get that time. It could end up being a turn with min time on the ground.

If they build them as actual split duty pairings there is some protection built in. FAR 117 requires a minimum 3 hours at a suitable rest facility.
