GS Mania.

I choose not to participate and enjoy the summer. However I’m very intrigued at the amount of GS going out. Let’s here some good Rolling Thunder, GSWC, there I was stories.

NYC A320B has at least one OOB GSWC awarded. ATL pilot that got a three day GS which conflicted with the following 5-day trip. Well done LV. My GS hero.

A few buddies chose to participate and got to enjoy their summer even more as a result...the two are not mutually exclusive. Two ended up at GS#4 and worked less than a normal line for the month. I think I saw an IAWC...had to click on the help menu to look up some of the codes I'd never seen.

hockeypilot44 08-27-2019 12:37 PM

I dropped a 3 day trip beginning of the month, picked up a 3 day green slip over the same days, then had commuting problems (2 gate returns on a company flight) which resulted in me getting rerouted before my first leg (a contractual no-no). The result was triple pay or a 54 hour 3-day.

The next month I put in a GS request and checked the box to award on duty. Landed to have an arcos email offering me 3 different trips. Saw all 3 went junior to me so called scheduling. They apologized and added 10:30 to my time card. I then was able to still GS which I didn't do until the following weekend.

Those were my two feel-good summer stories this year. I know there's thousands of them out there.

JamesBond 08-27-2019 02:41 PM

I had a 3 day Europe greenslip. Got food poisoned on the rotation. Half at straight sick time pay.

Dammit.

Why??? "What's with all the greed here? It's unattractive". Really

20Fathoms 08-27-2019 03:07 PM

My phone rang exactly once this summer. Dusted off the ARCOS app and comically tried to re-figure out how to use it, reset my login etc, all while watching the timer count down. Ended up getting all set just before the 10 minutes wound down, only to see it go to a guy 6000 numbers senior to me :D

Scoop 08-27-2019 04:28 PM

I got a rock. ;). On the other hand I did swing 30+ days off in a row, July-August. It’s good to have options.:)

My phone looks like my psycho ex-girlfriend named "ARCOS" is close to breaking in the house. :D

PS next Feb will reflect some of this GS mania.

What you mean?

higney85 08-27-2019 07:37 PM

My wife had to inform me that ARCOS lacked her talents. Non stop calls. Was able to get quite picky for commutable GS trips in ATL 717B. Paid well, but had to turn the facet off...for Sanity.

Trip7 08-27-2019 10:04 PM

Got a 3 Day OOBGS that started with a easy deviate from DH, had an Atlanta layover, then ended with a DH out of Atlanta. It was a great month.

GS on reserve/PB days. Best deal we have at Delta. Let’s not change it on this contract. QOL

How does that work? Do you full GS pay or does it go towards reserve mins?

He's lying. It's not a thing. Nothing to see here.

Mine wasn’t out of base, but I had a GSWC two day awarded that conflicted with a four day. Then got rerouted into a third day, so paid for the three day, the four day, and reroute pay.

Yep, it's a secret game until you figure it out, upon which time you then tell no one. Much like how cleaning up the approach on the 320 is SUPPOSED to work.

Hope you made enough to retire. Some of us will move up a number and the company will have to hire at least two more pilots!

Even if he retired he'll still be on here carrying water.

Once he gets his dream shot of management, which i suppose i should check if he isnt already, he'll be buyout and we'll need the extra pilots.

Even if I became wealthy I'd keep my Delta seniority. It's a passion for me.

You do you. As for me, I am glad my passions are outside my job. The job merely allows me to pursue them until I become a full-time passion pursuer.

notEnuf 08-29-2019 04:19 PM

I love flying, the occasional challenge of weather and the people but the rest is work.

Speaking of management. Saw the weekly update on this ASCEND program. What’s that program all about? I mean, I read the description of the program, but are those pilots being primed for management one day?

I believe the desired progression is,
Altar boy -> eagle scout -> USAFA -> F-15E -> M88B -> Ascend -> ATL CPO.

Ive seen a lot of management boot lickers lose their virginity on a bankruptcy, base closure, downgrade, furlough, and sometimes all at the same pilot, break from their stupid boot licker ways. But the "passion" to stay at home are strong with them, they work hard a few years, act like theyve earned a break, and theyll rationalize that in amazing ways.

The narcissism is real enough they like to admit "ive got a little/lot of that in me, thats part of my drive to better myself blah blah blah."

*Shrug* HR find these clowns, all you can hope for is when their delicate ego gets stomped on they double down hard on ALPAs side and dont betray us.

All of which potentially involve sodomy, but I’m sure that’s a coincidence.

Lol! I see your point on altar boy, Eagle Scout, and F15E. Not sure about M88B...

RightSide 08-30-2019 08:09 AM

Has anyone ever seen it where you missed out on a greenslip because scheduling has a different standing request qualifiers than what you have in ICrew? I missed out on a greenslip this morning because they said I didn’t meet the parameters for the trip. When he read me my qualifiers they didn’t match to what I was showing on ICrew:confused:

crewdawg 08-30-2019 10:22 AM

If I understand the program correctly, it actually seems like an interesting program. It would be cool to get a peak behind the curtain in all the various areas that make this operation happen. It would probably help make sense of the goings-on of the day to day operation. I'm not really interested in management gigs, so I'm likely not their target audience.

Yeah I was actually really interested in the concept before the program existed, for that very reason. A peak behind the curtain, by just asking to sit with anyone in these random offices in ATL for an hour. But then the program started and the resumes of those selected are a lot of what you'd expect for management types. Academy, Thunderbirds, air medals for safe landings...

Just a guess but, if I was you, I’d check my standing qualifiers. If you haven’t done that in a while you may have forgotten exactly what you had in.

Print out all the qualifiers or take screen shots. Ask to speak to a scheduler and get paid for the trip. Make certain you’re correct and looking at the proper month. 31 Aug is the Sep bid period. I have never noted a error like you’re descibing.
One last point. All GS’s are now prefers, why have qualifiers?

Qualifiers used to filter the pool of calls one would get for a green slip that was yours. Now we must filter for calls we will get telling us we're in the group of pilots who just might get a green slip. Oddly enough, I've even been contacted for a single green slip, in a bucket of roughly 10 pilots, for which I and several others listed were shown as not eligible.

Some GS are worth the headfake, others are not.

Qualifiers are also handy when creating auto-acknowledge slips when flying or in sims.

Exactly. For instance, make sure you former NYC-based pilots haven't left a co-terminal qualifier in after you have AE'd to ATL. That will knock you out of the GS game too. Ask me how I know. 🙄
