I think it was 90 additional to whatever their Q4 hiring plan already was.

I miss read that then. I don't think even with 490 that keeps up with attrition for the year. So YoY we are a smaller pilot group with more airplanes and more block hours flown. Talk about a massive hit to QOL.

2018 had 353 planned age 65 retirements, but 473 actually left, so 33% more than planned.

2019 has 448 Age 65 retirements on the books, so using the extra 33%, its probably more like 596.

From Jan-Sept this year, 384 folks have left the list so far. Aveage has been 43 per month.

43/month x 4 remaining monhts = 172

384 + 172 = 556 so it appears we are on track for about 25% more than planned for 2019.

If we only hire 490 this year, we will be approx 69 new hires less than attrition.

Note: went to public school....math in public waiver.

What would be interesting to see is what positions they've retired off of and how many have been backfilled into those individual seats.

That’s the key to understanding which categories are more adversely affected by retirements. It would also be the best way to see how JVs are impacting our top-end jobs.

I can guarantee you we retired way more widebody captains, to be filled by...wait for it...24 narrowbody captain slots.

Waiting for another management parroted “mic drop” from trip7

Of course he parrots mgmt....he was a 3 year Regional FO before coming here. Not to worry, Delta hires Captains......well sort of.

I’m not defending our current AE process, however, there were ~80 widebody Capts awarded in Jan, and ~390 awarded in Mar.

Did you miss the big bid and all the widebody captain slots? They covered all planned retirements for the year plus a factor for unplanned attrition. We are getting additional widebody positions in the next bid because they have accelerated A330 deliveries.

It’s not cool to disparage someone’s background. They are here and obviously jumped through the same hoops, that were required at the time, everyone else did.

While there is obviously a pecking order (not a chicken reference) of pilots, once hired, our past is a footnote - some may be more interesting than others.

I have been extremely impressed by everyone hired in the last five years that I have flown with.
