Default Congresswoman Replies to Fair and Open Skies

September 13, 2019

Thank you for writing to me about the Fair and Open Skies Act.

The United States operates one of the safest aviation systems in the world. Consequently, it is important that Congress protect American businesses in this vital industry from unsafe competition. In the aviation sector, just as in all others, airlines must be made to play by the rules and uphold industry regulations.

Today, foreign airlines can set up a “flag of convenience” by establishing themselves in a country with weak airline regulations. That way, they can skirt strong labor protections and undercut their competitors.

That is why my team and I are reviewing H.R.3632, the Fair and Open Skies Act. This bill would bar the Department of Transportation from issuing permits to airlines that exploit a “flag of convenience,” thus protecting American businesses from unfair competition and ensuring labor standards are upheld. As my colleagues and I continue our discussions about labor standards, the aviation industry, and this specific issue in the 116th Congress, I will continue to keep your thoughts in mind.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Hearing from you and learning what you care about helps me serve you. Member of Congress

Nice response. Sure she will be like the others here in the Western part of the State. All talk and no action unless it is for the homeless or illegals. Sorry not trying to be political, just realistic.

Plus she gets a call from BA about all those planes they're selling to the ME3 and FoC scam airlines etc and all the sudden nothing happens.

Because they're pro-labor. Even though your shirt is white, pilots are nothing but blue collar labor.

You may be a conservative voter, but you're not getting job support from your representatives. A lot of pilots are more interested in other issues when in the voting booth.

Nothing wrong with that...its what representative democracy is all about. Just don't expect support for labor from the right side of the aisle.

That's right. It's why in other parts of the world, the equivalent of the Democratic Party is simply known as Labour.

Well good news. The bill passed committee.

From the latest DAL MEC News:

The House Transportation Committee approved a bill today that would prohibit DOT from issuing permits to "flags of convenience" airlines, who have been accused of skirting regulations by using different countries for different parts of their business. The legislation, H.R. 3632 (116), is a perennial priority for chairman Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), who first introduced it in 2016 in response to DOT's issuance of a permit to Norwegian Air International. At the time, he called it a "virtual airline set up to undercut competition by exploiting cheap labor." The committee approved the bill this morning by voice vote. The bill has more than 60 cosponsors, including 13 Republicans.

Don't count on it. They're not "pro labor" at all anyway or they wouldn't be into flooding the country with literally unlimited poor people entitled to massive never before promised benefits which Bernie, like legendary labor leader Ceaser Chavez, was against until 5 minutes ago when he realized there's no path to a primary win otherwise.

And don't forget, Boeing manufacturing is also labor. This is why Obama and now Trump are basically doing nothing over this. Pretending to hear us and address it, but the BA and BoB machine keeps on keeping on as we sell out our permanent industry jobs of tomorrow for manufacuting jobs today.

Its also easy to #resist when you're mostly out of power and make whatever promsies you need to in order to fire up your base. Orange Man Bad!!!! is in right now, but IMO any and all interest from one party to stop the FoC and ME3 scams are all lip service and they never have any intention to do much about it either.
