Green Slips vs Hiring

Record GS in lieu of hiring. Good for those 40K who got double pay, but how does this shake out in the future? I'm all for GS, but when it comes at expense of other pilots not being able to drop a trip on an important family event, how does that help QOL? |

Isn’t there a loose inverse relationship between GSs and QOL? When I got hired 5ish years ago GSs were largely only available in most bases to the senior pilots but I was able to manipulate my schedule almost every month to improve it. Fast forward to this past summer and I was hounded multiple times daily for GSs and even with good seniority, moving things around was tough at times. So, based on one pilot's little sliver of experience, while hiring will help QOL, GSs will have to take a back seat for some. GP |
If anything, this pilot group as a whole broadcasted loudly and clearly that money takes precedence over quality of life. That was the single greatest lesson the company learned this summer; throw money at them and watch them fight over it.

I think this is a pendulum, it swings this way a little bit, in 3 yrs no one will know what a GS is or how to get into arcos. At least I hope I'm right... Otherwise, jeesh |

Increased GSs go hand in hand with reduced schedule flexibility and time off. Seniority in seat will be more important for those who covet QOL and the ability to decide how to spend their time and the value of it.

Green slips are available because there aren’t reserves. Reserves aren’t available because they already were assigned trips. They already were assigned trips and there aren’t any available because the staffing is low. If the staffing is low there’s limited ability to move trips and adjust a schedule after PBS award. Nobody has said they are forced to take green slips, they’ve said schedule flexibility is limited.
