The day I got hired... first flight on the 88. Last flight on the 88. First flight on the 757 and subsequently 767. Last flight on the 737. First flight on the little bus. First flight on the 330. First flight as little bus captain (best job I’ve ever had!).

I’ll enjoy the day “captain” Gumm has to go spend more time with his family given how ruined my schedule was this summer.

Yeah, that’s a pretty good day. Good luck to you.

The day I got the onboarding email. The weight was off my shoulders and I knew my real career would begin.

You did that all in a day? You were busy that day.

Great thread. I could write volumes, and if it all ended tomorrow I'd go with a smile. By far, it's been the people. Followed by the places. Followed by the equipment...even the 88. I just hope I can remember it all after I retire... because God knows I can't write half of it down!

Not only a day. But his first day. That’s why he is a legend.

The day I no longer had to cross country commute to reserve after three airplane and four base displacements. The 405 is a breeze.

I’m with you. The day I no longer had to commute. I still smile when I drive to work.

When I started flying International on the 767, I flew with a guy on one of his last flights. He asked me if I was keeping a journal of experiences and places I’d been. He said someday I would be glad I did. When it’s all over and you hang up the uniform for the last time, you’ll probably want to reminisce and remember all the fun times you’ve had. That was 12 years ago, man do I wish now that I had taken his advice. I bought a couple nice journals, one with a nice leather cover that looked like an old world map, but never put pen to paper. I know I’ll regret not doing it.

All you youngins, do yourself a favor and take the advice I was too ignorant to take. Take pictures and write about your experiences. Some day your grand kids might find it fascinating the things you experienced and the places you’d been.
