Seattle Council Proposal: No Retirement Age
For the January 17th council 54 meeting (Seattle), there is a resolution to direct “the Delta MEC Chairman to endorse the elimination of the mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots so long as they pass required mental and physical health exams...”
I won’t post the entire resolution publicly, other than the language above. However, the amended agenda for the Jan 17th meeting IS NOT available on the Council 54 page of DALPA’s website for you to verify. I hope it is updated soon so any Delta pilot with an interest in the topic of retirement can personally read the resolution. |
Absofreakinglutely NOT. WTF?????
This needs to be killed. |
No way, boomer. :p
|
Nope nope nope. Might need to drop a trip to attend the local meeting to oppose this one.

Read it here first...."If it happens...Just Deal with it"...."Life is life and life's not fair"....."reduce your standard of living"...."you have 15 years or more to prepare"...yada...yada...yada
Nobody mandates that you stay any longer than you want to...it will be voluntary. This too will turn into "who's ox is getting gored". Some will claim victim-hood and the other side will use all the arguments about the "money grab of old farts" against you. Oh .....and.... it will never happen. Time to untwist your collective panties |

If they follow other proposals, they are going to start increasingly intrusive medical exams at age 40. This reminds me of when the USAF started requiring treadmills on all their fighter pilots. They got a massive number of false positives with no actual true positives that wouldn’t have been detected by just the regular ECGs. The reason they knew they were false positives is because they did cardiac catheterizations on all of them. Eventually even the Air Force relented.
Cognitive testing has an even higher rate of false positives than ECGs. Think about having to do a Hogan at every exam. And if you score any different than you did last, you fail. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3838959/ Be careful what you wish for... |
Denny.....are you bored and drafting resolutions again?? 😁

Yup, it'll never happen but somebody has the audacity to try to make my union work against my interests so this should get all the attention it does.
Personally I will be retiring at 65 and that will be it.

It’s obviously a stunt, and a foolish one at that. IIRC a LEC cannot direct the MEC to do anything.
Hey old guys - Way to get the young guys on your side. Once again, confusing tactics with strategy. Scoop |
and they forgot they were in 2020
|
I'd might be ok with it - if they went over to the FO seat.

Not to be argumentative but I'm sure there are other pilots that are part of this union that may have a different opinion than you......

This isn't a resolution.
It is the plot of the next Star War franchise. https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...lhnvxy1kmd.png Can't kill me. I'm taking it all; then burning the planet. Meanwhile, RJ pilots just hoping one of them gets it in before the Death Star blows up planet Comair, ASA, BizE, Freedom, Mesa, ExpressJet, GoJets, Distress I Airlines, Distress II, Pinnacle, Wisconsin, Compass, Sure Air, or Mesaba. ... |

Wouldn't this have to be approved by the FAA, not the Delta MEC Chairman? To become law?
Also, a Local Council resolution cannot direct the MEC, much less the entire Association. But don't tell them that either and when they write 2019 in the logbook, let it go. Ironically, for their resolution to go anywhere, guess who has to fix it for them? |

20 guys at a meeting can’t by themselves create this sort of change. It could get the ball rolling on updated polling of the entire pilot group to see if sentiment has changed, but I don’t think they are are gonna like what they find. |

What noone really wants to talk about is what if the FAA enacts age 67 but it still isn't recognized by AESA/ICAO/etc...? Knowing that not all old guys are necessarily senior, how does bidding/awarding of reserve trips avoid abrogating seniority. In Canada, >65 can't be Captains... All those WB Captains going to jump down to a more predominately domestic fleet...potentially as an FO?

The amended agenda is available on DALPA for those with access who care to view the resolution for themselves.
Log in to DALPA and get to the Council 54 page. Select “Meeting Notice” After it loads, select the link at the top of the notice “click here for mobile version” The amended agenda contains links to the four resolutions to be voted on during the January 17th meeting, including the resolution discussed here. |
Embarrassing. This is like running for student council and promising to put soda in the water fountains...

Curious when a resolution is brought forward at the LEC, does it just get voted on by that LEC or does it go to the MEC? I read somewhere that all LEC's are voting on this resolution...
|
The same resolution has been posted on the agenda for ATL C44 meeting next Friday the 17th.

Should this follow the polling pattern in general, it will die an appropriately horrible death. |
