Default 737 LW Crew Bag

I’m in the market for a new bag. I’m currently using the 26” LW from previous long haul employer but I think it’ll be too big for me here and now as a commuter. I am going through training on the 73, and I haven’t actually been in one, so I wasn’t sure about the stowage situation for FOs. Do I need to get the 73 bag, or will the standard 22” LW work? Thanks in advance.

F/O’s actually throw their bags in the closet. So your only concern should be commuting. And if you ever upgrade — the 26” bag fits just fine in the flight deck storage unit. It may stick out a bit. But I bought a “737” bag for no reason.

Great! I was unsure if there was always closet access. I’m definitely keeping the big one but will add on a small regular for the time being. Thanks!

Always fun when the cranky old FA "requires" you to ask for permission to use "her" closet. Ummmm.....read the Red Book lady! 😁

Proper response: “I don’t need your permission to use this closet.”

26” is fine. Don’t waste any money on a new bag if it’s in good shape. Grab a few yellow tags for DHs on days when you don’t want to fight the overhead bin war. It fits in the closet fine, and when you can hold CA on the 73 in like, 5 months (if we’re not all dead) it should fit in the CAs flight deck bag storage spot (at least mine does when I’ve put it up there.)

I've never had this happen in my years on the 737.

If you've got a quick turn to a commute home, you can put any bag on your right in the cockpit where the flight kits used to go. It'll be a minor irritant to your right elbow, but you won't have to fight upstream to go get your bag from behind first class on the 900s. On the 800s, the closet is by the 1L exit so it doesn't matter so much.

Alternatively, captains who aren't themselves in a hurry after the last leg sometimes offer their bag storage to you and put their bag in a closet... lets you beat feet while they say goodbye.

You missed out then. I was only on it for 10+ years from 2004-2015. Senior FAs were quite possessive of "their" closet.

I'm glad things seem to have changed, or they finally got the message. Most even leave or make room for the F/Os bag without being asked.
