Does checking the reinstatement box make that your highest bid priority by default? Or can you still bid another category as your first choice, followed by reinstatement to your old category second?
Your award will be based on your preferences in order. Checking the reinstatement box just gives you priority over senior AEs when returning to your previous category. If you want to return to your previous category, list it as preference #1 and check the reinstatement box.

I have a question that I saw discussed last AE, but I can’t remember the answer.
I was displaced on the MOAD. I am converting to my new category in November and will have reinstatement rights until May. If I AE into another category on this AE, do I lose my reinstatement rights into my original category because of my seat lock or is the seat lock waived for a reinstatement? If you are awarded an AE, you lose your reinstatement rights on subsequent bids. |

I believe checking the box makes it the highest priority, but I’m not certain of that.

it does NOT make it your highest priority. You put your reinstatement category in your preference order, the checked box means you desire to be reinstated there if you don’t get one of the bids you put above it.

You keep your reinstatement rights for future bids until the 6 month timeline runs out.
According to the PWA, this is only true as long as you “hold an MD.” As soon as you bid to another position via an AE, you are no longer considered displaced. If I’m wrong about this, please let me know the appropriate section of the PWA. |

I thought that was the case as well, but during the last bid I spoke with ALPA. They said that you keep your reinstatement rights and that the company agrees with this interpretation.
I hope that’s true. I’m all for anything that benefits the pilots over the company. |

Does this also apply to returning UNAs? I’m a bit confused, because I thought that UNAs get what is “left over” after reinstatements and senior AEs by proffer. So as an UNA will the bid go straight to your reinstatement choice if you tick that reinstatement box?
