So, how do they set the flaps at American?

Waiting for the punchline in 3, 2, 1......

I don’t know, how do they set the flaps at American?

Not sure. What I can't figure out why it's so hard for a certain Air Line will all love to set flaps. How many times do they need to change the procedure? What's so hard about " salute received, flaps whatever, taxi clearance"?

it’s worth reading the significant event summaries. TOFU has running themes of distraction at that point and nonstandard ramp procedures. For instance, on a charter, you sometimes don’t get a salute. This was mentioned in the rationale portion of the change bulletin.

Agreed. This is a welcome change. The salute rarely came at the time we were ready to set the flaps.

yes. I really like the rationale of using a positive trigger instead of “prior to movement.” I think this is a great change

Sometimes the salute is received at a time when you can't set the flaps (during start on the 767 for example.)

The "Prior to Aircraft Movement" has always been a terrible "trigger." I bought it up in CQ years ago and was basically told that Delta pays me a lot of money and to shut up and color. We stop and go several times before we takeoff so there's a lot of "Prior to Aircraft Movement." Guys have been using "hand on the flap lever," "checklist on the flap lever," "WDR on the flap lever," techniques and yet TOFU continues. The threat seems to be distractions during the start/salute.

I'm glad we've finally reinvented the rest of the industry's wheel and simply placed it on the After Start checklist.

While I'm not sure how they set the flaps at AA, I operated the 320 series at 2 carriers prior to DL and we set the flaps on the after start flow at both carriers.

my regional did the same on the CRJ series AC. Made total sense, set flaps as part of the flow and verified flaps were set to (x) before movement, I think we still had a couple issues with incorrect TO flap settings.
