Anybody have a crystal ball guess as to how long the 7ers and 757 are going to be around? I’d love to fly the jet, but hate to go there, be junior, then have them slowly retire; remaining junior for the duration

Management has said 5 years or more. If demand comes back this year, I’d bet on “or more”. They’ve cut the number of aircraft 20% during covid and we will need the lift IMHO.

I think the 757 is going to be around for at least a decade or more. The 767, not so much. The 320 NEO deliveries etc are getting pushed to the right, and the 321/900/800 can't do what the 757 does.

I expect we see the 757 in Delta colors for awhile.

Our fleet changes to the demands of network. So who really knows?

Was on the -88 for several years, they told me in IQ as a new hire the dog was going away and I better start thinking about a new seat. yeah. right. We saw how that worked out. TOok a cold to finally put the dog down.

I'm hope we see some 787s on the ramp soon though. Guy can dream right?

My .02 cents worth.

Those 787, might come with some scope relief clauses. I’ve been getting info that some backdoor negotiations it’s been done by our Chairman or someone he sent. It could be just rumors...

I just hope, whatever comes down the pipe, it goes to a vote.

I too would like to go back to the ER. But junior on the ER = displacement fodder.

Unless you like Va Ave.

I've heard the same rumors from two sources that usually have good info, so it's probably not far from the truth. If it comes with scope relief, they can keep the 787...thing still has a stupid yoke.

I already picked up my waffle house frequent rewards card.

Why would they buy 787s when we can get A330NEOs? Range? We can use an A350 - and we are deferring/cancelling commitments to purchase.
Price? Why would Boeing discount when that product makes them money. Maxes and 777X aren’t paying the bills. We could probably even get our hands on used A330CEOs dirt cheap.

I just don’t understand this rumor for a whole other fleet type. What’s the motive?

Your guess is as good as mine. What's the motive for opening multiple 717 bases only to close them a short while later. Why have a ridiculous displacement bid, THEN have a VEOP...who knows?

I’m assuming it’s a few things. One aspect may be payload/range. It sounds like the 330-900 can’t do what the 787-9 can on 14+hr flights. UA was using the 787 on 16+ hr routes pre COVID and I’m not sure the 330-900 can do that. (Never flew the plane so I’ll take any insight from those that have)

Another thing may be ER replacement. The 330-900 is much bigger than the 763s and is not an ideal replacement for thinner capacity routes. Airbus makes the 330-800 but from what I’ve read is it will have higher CASM than the 787-8 because it is heavier. I can’t remember where but I read somewhere that the 787 is optimized for longer routes than the 330NEO but still burns less gas on shorter routes than the 330.

lastly low purchase costs. There are a lot of unloved 787s around the world we may be able to get for cheap. If talking new planes...While you are correct that the 787 is really the only thing making money for BA right now, giving us a good deal on 787s might be worth it if we buy other Boeing jets like the MAX or the “797”
