ATL crew hotels
So I’ve noticed a bit of a decline at the Country Inn and Suites South. Used to be the best deal out there, but now I’m looking for something a little better. What are you guys using nowadays for a hotel crash pad?
|
I hear the hotel formerly known as the Crowne Plaza is nice. ;)
(Been a while so I haven’t personally observed any decline, but I agree the Country Inn and Suites Airport South was the best deal) |
I'm going to try Marriott Fairfield. I was told to use code UCW for crewmember rate which I believe is about $85 out the door. I never stayed there so I can't comment yet.
|
I stayed there a half-dozen times and regretted it.. the Fairfield Marriott on north side had bed-bugs pre Covid and always smelled like MJ.
ymmv |
Use Marriott code “DLA”. I frequent the Westin for $89 before tax typically. Other times the Marriott in between 9L/9R which is one of our crew hotels. Anything to be away from VA.

The AC Marriott hotel is 84 before taxes. Just a train ride away.

It appears like I may have to eat a little crow from my last post. Looks like the Holiday Inn and the Sonesta are done effective immediately. Kudos to Delta for a rapid response. (Although the union email does point out they’ve had safety concerns for years and been ignored up to this point).

Rapid response? There have been violent crimes every few months near our hotels since I have been here. Delta has always done the bare minimum. Getting the Holiday Inn to lock the hotel at night, increasing Police patrols, and then finally putting a cop in the parking lot. None of those actually make us safer, they just decrease the time it takes for a first responder to get to the scene AFTER a crew member has been attacked/stabbed/shot.
After checking in to the hotel some years ago, I found out that the front desk had been robbed twice in the preceeding week or two. And then there is the gas station somewhat near the ruby Tuesday that, from what I have been told, is robbed on a fairly regular basis. |
In the company's defense, has any employee actually been harmed transiting the Virginia Ave area and the hotels? Heard rumors of muggings over the decades, but that's it.
Flight operations personnel travel all over the country and the world into places that look ok, but really aren't. (BWI Inner Harbor comes to mind). I like to think of Virginia Ave. hotel space as a training ground for what the rest of your career is going to be like: mostly safe layovers, but the onus not to be stupid or to wear rose colored glasses on the reality of where you are is 100% on you. To wit: jogging through the College Park area is probably not the smartest thing to do. Plenty have though. Maybe AOK for the fleet of foot. Anyone ever refused a Virginia Ave hotel and booked their own room on their own dime? (No, you shouldn't have to) That would be a rational response to a known threat. |

And yet that didn't stop a gunfight in a parking lot nearby that resulted in a bullet entering a pilot's room.
Speed of police response 5 minutes. Speed of 9 mm, .357, 45 caliber bullet. Fractions of a second. Police are good at writing up a murder report and arresting a suspect. A second amendment protected firearm is good at stopping a murder from taking place, often without firing a shot. |

I had a vehicle stolen out of the Holiday Inn parking lot about 6 years ago. 4 years ago I witnessed a shoot out in the parking lot at three in the afternoon. Reported both to corporate safety and the union because I wanted to address safety concerns. I never heard back from anyone. This is long overdue.

If you don't have a cardiologist, waffle house is an option.

I miss the topless bar on VA. All those dollies would be 36 longs by now.

Has anyone stayed at the HGI for training yet? If so, how is it? Doesn't look like much food around.
