Then you have the bad.....Jackson, Buffalo, Albany, Tallahassee, Baltimore, Dayton, Providence, NY, and St Louis, just to name a few. I have found most guys who like the downtown layovers are big beer drinkers. They always say this layover is horrible but I have a hole in the wall bar I like to go too.

We don't stay downtown in Baltimore. St Louis and NYC are great downtown layovers. I can't speak to the others, but there are very few downtown layovers that are unsafe or boring...unless of course you only want to eat at Chili's or the hotel restaurant.

I think the cutoff time between long and short layovers needs to change also. 12 hr layover I don't want to go downtown.. I'm not going to drink or go out usually. I just want to eat, work out, and sleep comfortably. 15+ hrs then maybe I'd rather go downtown. 12hrs isn't enough time imho.

But I'm also an anti-social millennial :D

I get it. I’m also a anti-social millennial. But…on the other side hotels closer to the airport, might be cheaper. That could incentive the company to give us less rest to save some money.

i’m a slam clicker but I’d rather be alone downtown than in a strip mall

True. And having private transportation to a downtown hotel is a huge plus over the unpredictability of airport hotel vans..

Agreed. If we're using transportation as the argument, downtown wins just about every time. I'd rather spend 0 minutes on the curb and 20-30 in a climate controlled van with my crew member(s), than 15-20 minutes on the curb to climb into an overstuffed community van with 3 more stops before getting to the hotel.

I don’t think you can paint this subject with a broad brush. FCR the good ones and the bad ones. If you’re not doing that, you’re letting those of us who do shape the landscape.

No, everyone does not think this. Airport hotels are the worst. No thanks.

Westin at DEN is fantastic. No van on either end, decent food and comfortable.

Just don't dance naked in your window. 😁

Just like DTW, it's great for a short layover. But I don't want to be stuck literally at the airport there for a long one.

Have to agree with this sentiment, but also agree with the earlier poster about re-evaluating the cut off time for the long layover hotel. Under 14 hours means you’ve had a long day or the next day will be. Get me to a hotel, let me eat, do my routine and get some rest.

I also think private transport for all layovers should be looked at, barring a property on airport grounds, which may inspire more of those as short hotels.
