What were your work rules at the regional carrier. In particular what type of daily minimum or average did you have and how many days a month was the average line. My son works at a regional that has lots of short legs and flies 4 leg days but not often. Basic lines however are constructed to 18 or 19 days to get in the 70 to 80 hour range.

I dont recall a lot of specifics. I cant find an old contract but were talking about XJT in the early 2000s and the contract was fairly decent. We did have lots of 13-15 day off lines, but that's RJ life. I believe we had a lower min day credit which meant we had a greater mix between unproductive 4 days and high time, ball buster trips. But we also had leg by leg overs and once credit/overs were earned, they were never "given back". Also much more flexible and transparent scheduling software. Line bidding was a blessing and a curse and meant that sometimes a line that worked for days off you wanted might have some crap trips, but it was what it was. Trading and swapping were pretty common so you could usually massage something decent out of each month.

don't forget:
"We fixed it"
"No please, I don't have your money, I'm just coming out of a city council meeting. Tell him I'll have it laundered next week!"

Just keep in mind that when PBS was agreed to in negotiations we were promised the following in a giant PowerPoint screen.

PBS will be simple, intuitive and easy to use

“Ohhhhh, I complained to the RCC, and they didn’t fix it! I should’ve just gone directly to the right channels!!”

The right channels are the RCC and chief pilots. You can even professionally voice your discontent on skynet. But you’re the exact type of people I’m referring to who would rather argue with me here than actually contact real outlets about issues.

Meanwhile our non-union flight attendants have mostly 3 day trips or less.

Yes I know they can work multiple aircraft types and their trips typically suck. I'd rather work a hard 3 day trip than any 5 day.

And I’d rather work a 5-day than any 3-day. Weird how different pilots have different priorities.

they’re also qualified on every airplane, which makes the combinatorial mathematics a bit easier. And their reserve, standby, and reroute rules are a bit different than ours, meaning trips can be covered more easily. As always, there’s a bigger picture.

I'd be willing to bet you are in the minority. Look at how senior shorter trips go every month. Bid packs should be equally diversified every month.
