I agree. Coming back from the Caribbean yesterday we were getting the crap beat out of us…..in an area FWV showed as no turbulence. Happens all the time.

How heavily does FWV rely on pireps for turbulence plotting?

I don’t believe it does. It’s delta Wx folks in the OCC with a proprietary algorithm. However, the ‘dots’ dropped from AOA bumps do feed that algorithm, as I understand it.

send feedback to the WW team. They want to know about these situations to improve the system.

I’ve the exact opposite true too. Many many times. FWV says “hang on” and it’s glass. It was fairly accurate once upon a time but this last year I find it fairly worthless other grabbing ATIS from it.

the sensors on our jets send the data to NCAR which creates the turbulence models that populate WWx. Theoretically, with more automatic reports, the more accurate the models.

Yeah, thanks. I didn’t know the technical terms, but that’s what I was trying to say. As I understand it’s based on variations in AOA.

I've lost the secret of short cuts.

Can someone tell me how to create a shortcut so that the apps I like can be opened with a single tap?

This is not proprietary, but a presentation of GTG (Graphical Turbulence Guidance) information. There are several products that use this information. I think that it is the GTG data that also drives the Jepp display of turbulence as well as the upper subscription levels of ForeFlight.
