The short call game has changed since the new contract. Like others have said here I used to get maybe 3 short calls a month and 95% of the time I wouldn't get used. I'm top 1/3 of west coast narrow body B category living in base.
This is my first month on reserve since the short call 1 hour pay was implemented. I was on short call 4 times (the 4 times I didn't have a long call assignment) and got used every time. I used to plan a day off when on short call. I think the new contract means they are putting less people on short call, so there is higher likelihood of being used. Airfix |
At 40-something percent ATL 717B, I haven't been called for a trip in over three weeks, bidding a 3 on/4 off pattern seems to help in not getting used, and I think i've had 2 SC's which I haven't been used from.

Reserves overseas?
What happens if a pilot calls in sick/fatigued while on a layover in CDG, FRA, LHR, etc? Do we have crews in-country with rest ready to cover that flight? Just curious...

Somebody gets a green slip to deadhead over and operate back

Airfix Edit: In a sign of the ineptitude of the times the last one was an equipment swap from a 220. Showered, shaved, sat in traffic, got to the gate to find…. A 220. Called tracking to find out a 220 broke so they swapped to a 757 and called me off SC. Hours later they couldn’t find an FO for love or money so put it back on the 220. |

Just a note - SCC has always been added to your time card for every unused SC. The difference is now it is pay/no credit (above guarantee) instead of pay and credit (towards guarantee).

Wouldn't that be no pay/credit, if that’s even a term?
Anything that is pay and credit offsets rsv guarantee. It also would count towards the WS/SS limit, GS trigger, or be eligible for bank deposits. Pay no credit items are just pay and don’t count to any of the above. Except for vacation which is pay no credit but does count towards the GS trigger. |
Reserve rules
How easy is it to drop reserve days? I’ve got a class date this summer and it’ll be the first job I’ve had to commute for, so I’d like to avoid 19 days of reserve if possible knowing I’ll lose some pay until I’m senior enough to hold lines.

19 days of RES isn't a thing here though (unless you count days spent commuting.) The least amount of days off that can be assigned in a "normal" 30-day month is 12, and can be as high as 14 with good staffing. 13-15 in a 31-day month. |
