Some will use this venue to go on to play in college, but most will reach a terminus along the way.

The wrinkle is that dedicated kids will find a constructive outlet anyway. For the “less than dedicated” kids, the only answer seems to be boarding school in Woebegone, MN, away from local influences. Couple of kids in my extended family had to go that way, and it seemed to work better than sports probably would have.

Spendy, tho.

As anyone knows that has more than one, kids are different. Travel Vball that has worked for my daughter but my other two it wouldn't have been a fit.

First kid found HS marching band as pretty much a full time/year endeavor worthy of pursuing.

Second enjoyed working and internships during HS to occupy free time.

If you don't help them find something to dedicate HS years towards, they will and usually their choices are not what parents would think appropriate.

It's sad when basically prepping a kid to have a chance at being a professional motocross racer has a lower cost and statistical better ROI than travel hockey or soccer.

But hey, dirtbikes and an excuse to have a giant toy hauler 5th wheel!

That said, the work ethic, dedication, and competition she's experienced over the last few years has been a great life lesson and keeps her so buy there is no time for real HS level trouble which as a dad I support!
Also, this years Vball tournaments have been fun and super competitive which is payback for a few years of watching relatively less competitve vball matches.

You gotta be proud; congrats! D1 volleyball is no joke. How tall is she?

The so called regionals are having a problem keeping people long enough to upgrade . They are having Captain shortages . There are plenty of FO’s to be had but one can get hired at a bigger airline anymore with few hours and no PIC 121.

Not as tall still could be Libero, DS maybe?

Indeed, but I’d bet those spots are presumably even more competitive?

Setters can get away with being vertically challenged as well. Women’s VB at a competitive level whether it’s high school, club or college is impressive to watch. Amazing athletes and exciting action.

Agreed on the setter, if running a 6-2. Setters in a 5-1 have to be able to block as well. I think most teams are running the latter. Yes, very exciting sport to watch. TED, I would think even more competitive.

If not for travel sports my som would be hanging out with friends that have all been suspended. It is the only thing that motivates him to do well in school. He wants to play. I hate travel sports. I know they are a rip off. My wife and I never wanted any part until he begged us to do it. I made a deal he had to get honor roll. He has kept up his bargain. I’ll shell out the ungodly amount of money to basically bribe him to do well in school which has built good habits. Will he play professionally, doubt it, but he will probably get into college (prob not for his sport) so I consider it a win.

Having just retired I am shocked at how many job offers are popping up. Sadly I am far to lazy to take any of them and they all would interfere with my personal life. In the case of the VEOP pilots however I don’t usually understand the point of taking the VEOP and then starting over at another airline. Most would make more money and certainly have a far better quality of life simply staying at Delta.

Time card rant to follow…
over the past 3 months I’ve tracked how many times I’ve had to pimp scheduling to apply pay back days. Thus far it’s running at about 70% failure rate. Twice I’ve had to call again because they were incorrectly applied after being notified of the initial error. I also noticed the March make up check was a little light and after some PAS math I discovered it was short 14 hours. All errors have been fixed but It’s beyond irritating. I know there’s a lack of experience on the other end of these transactions, but this is edging closer to wage theft. Double check your interactions with scheduling always! It’s nauseating to think about how much of this crap goes unnoticed. Yes, fcr filed, cpo notified, etc. It won’t help fix the problem from that angle but I hope a bit more awareness on our end can generate enough pestering that scheduling begin performing their tasks more thoroughly.

Hey all. Does anybody here know how the Holiday pay will work? I understand it's 5:15 on top of the pay for the day. In my example I have a 4 day leaving on Memorial Day. The is worth 21:15 and the in the bid package there is 5:15 HOL. My timecard does not have the 5:15 HOL anywhere to be found. If anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it.

Nothing

The implementation LOA says the pay will be done manually. I’d imagine it will be added either when the rotation closes out, or in your paycheck.

As a friendly reminder: GS, reroutes, and other changes to time cards have been a struggle recently. I would imagine that manually added holiday pay will be as well. Best to keep an eye on it.

Honestly it’s best to watch them no matter what you are doing. It’s your money. I still double check the closed time on every trip I fly.
