Prepare Yourselves… 2024 AEs

The last AE of 2023 is posted. On to 2024!

AE golden days go into effect with the first AE posted on/after 1 Jan.

Is this the year we get a new category/base? Let the wild speculations fly!

What’s the verdict on monthly AEs? Love ‘em, hate ‘em or somewhere in-between?

Traditionally, whomever starts this thread has to make the first wild predictions. Let’s hear it.

Edit to add I like monthly AEs.

Greats questions. More to add:

Will the WBA Wall(2014 Hires) Fall in 2024?

What kind of impact on movement will the soon to be announced WB Order have?

Will Silver Slips be prevelent or just used sparingly around Holidays, Weekends, etc?

Great Wall of 14/15 hires falls to pure WB as long as the world behaves.

I was 0/2 last year and I didn't even make wild predictions! I pass the torch onwards.

Always in for a good rumor about potential pilot bases. Especially if they are not on the northeast coast.

And then it'll take years to get past 2015-2016. We hired thousands those years

very true. WB A reaching 2015 is more like its crossing a chasm. :D

Anyone else hearing this might be last AE for awhile? Just a rumor. Wonder if it’s credible.

There is a note in the current AE that says they anticipate the next AE will be posted the first week of January.

These monthly AE's only leave ~250 unfilled B positions each, so they would only have that many to offer new hires before needing to run another AE. Hiring would have to slow considerably in order for there to not be another AE for a while. This very AE posting said to expect 200/month through Q1 2024, so it sounds like that rumor is completely unfounded.

Maybe it was meant this might be last A positions for awhile.

Question for the brain trust...

SLC73NB new hire in seat lock, one year in. Bids NYC330B (presuming it can be held at that seniority). Is that a way to get off the seat lock since 330 is not in SLC or since the 73N is in NYC and obviously able to be held, the seat lock would not be released? My reading of the rules is that the seat lock would remain but others I have spoke to think differently. Wanting to get the brain trust view on it.

Cheers,
Stay Frosty

You are correct. If he were on the 330 in NYC and trying to get to SLC that would work. 73n is in every base so he could switch to any base on the equipment he is currently on.

The 737 is in NY, so it won’t work that way.

Not sure. Can say that I have a friend assigned ATL717B in Indoc. Bid SLC73NB at a year and was awarded based on a year of his seat lock completed and 717 not available in SLC. Agree that the language on new hire seat lock is confusing!

Just to be clear, the controlling variable is not if a base has a particular aircraft, it is if a base has a vacancy that could be awarded to the pilot on a particular AE.

If a NYC 73N new hire was trying to get to ATL during their second year, they would be awarded any vacancy in ATL if they were not senior enough to hold ATL 73NB on a bid. However unlikely that would be.

Think of it as a way to get out of a base not an aircraft. If you were based somewhere that had an aircraft but wanted to live somewhere else then if that aircraft didn’t exist in that base then you could bid out at a year.

Bingo. Best example is someone starting in NYC330 last year, probably not able to hold 330 anywhere else, after a year could pretty much go to any other NB in the system (aside from NYC in this case) so long as they can hold it in a given AE.

For any of you that have done training recently, or are in training, when did you get your schedule that shows which days you're training? I got the icrew message that my training starts the second week of Feb going from 320A to 330A. It's one of the short courses.

I know my training window, but the sim schedule posted on Deltanet only goes out to Jan 30th right now and that just changed. Last week it was only showing out to Dec 31st, so I won't be able to use that to look until the end of Jan. Will they email me an actual schedule and also if I'll be going to ATL or MIA and if so, about how far out did you find out?

Thanks for any and all info. I'm considering calling the training planner next week if I don't find something out here.

I had a "would like off" date that came up after I got the 7ERA award, and sim skeds said I should be good but it's not "official" until the 4th of the month prior.

I'm not sure if 4th is the usual date or if it's just so many days in advance and that happens to be the 4th in my case.

It's tied to the PBS window opening on the 4th, so that it can be pre-posted on trainees' schedules.

Bump.

anyone have gouge whether we’ll have a posting tomorrow?

Gunfighter 01-04-2024 09:35 AM

Yesterday's Flight Operations update didn't mention an upcoming AE in the Crew Resources section. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we had an AE this week.

Should be posted tomorrow, will create some good movement I think.

crewdawg 01-05-2024 06:07 AM

Man, they better slow down on the 717A awards, I'm not sure they'll have the training capacity LOL. If they're really returing jets to service, they're certainly not showing it via the last 6-9 AE's.
