Very cool indeed!

If you look at the routing of the aircraft (3411) the past few days it couldn't have been cheap. Positoned to DFW on Monday from LAX. Yesterday (Tuesday) it operated DFW-LAX-KOA. As of now it is currently on the ground in LAX having just operated KOALAX. It's scheduled to operate LAXDFW next which is presumably the fini flight.

Keith is an awesome guy, and I couldn't be happier for him. What a great way to go out!

Yeah look up the pilot rotation for it.. pretty interesting! Is he a management guy or something or just big pimpin'? Seems like he wrote a book too if you google his name.

TimingANDluck 02-28-2024 03:33 PM

I just can’t help but feel bad for the guy. If he had just gotten to stay two more years to age 67, he would have been able to afford to charter an A350.

NoWay 02-28-2024 04:17 PM

As someone else mentioned, Keith is a great guy and a pleasure to fly with. Talk about going out in style!

Dude was a class act when I had the pleasure of chatting with him. I read his book as a young kid and is part of the what inspired me to fly F-16s. Vipers in the Storm.

I'm not certain, but I think he was either against or neutral on age 67.

Elevation 02-28-2024 05:32 PM

This is a much better representation of senior, Delta pilots than some other things in the news. Hopefully he had a great time with the people he loves.

Trip7 02-28-2024 06:10 PM

I'm going to grab a copy of his book. What a spectacular end to a stellar career

He was solid…anyone know which base his frame is at?

Damn, now I've got one more goal for retirement savings.....enough to retire comfortably, with enough left over to do something like this too. 🤪

What an epic way to go out!

It's all that avocado toast you're buying bruh

Turbo1 02-29-2024 10:26 AM

What the heck? Isn't telling the sim instructor to lower the sim, "We're done" halfway thru the session isn't good enough anymore? What a show off.......

myrkridia 02-29-2024 11:01 AM

One of my mentors (different airline) retired recently and I asked him if he's got anything planned for his retirement flight. He told me he wasn't doing anything of that sort and was far more interested in maximizing the enjoyment of his free time and depleting his sick bank before his birthday. I'll admit I'm a sucker for the cool memories and celebrating a successful career, but I've come to really admire the ones who go quietly.

All the power to this guy though, sounds like he made a positive impact on many throughout his career here and went out with a bang.

There's a little bistro in Paris with a fantastic wine cellar. There's a 1984 bottle of Domain Romanee Conti Burgundy that literally has my name on it.

Hopefully my fini trip is a Paris one, think I can swing it, my wife and kids and crew will hopefully enjoy that bottle with me. It will certainly be an emotional time.

I think that will be a fitting end to my years here and I can't think of any other way to "celebrate" that than with my two families. We'll see if I can pull it off when that time comes. This was certainly one cool way of sending yourself off though, not gonna lie!

Your wife is cool with this "other" family? 😀

Edit: I see you mentioned crew....now I get it. One bottle for all those people is a little weak sauce though. Better buy 3 or 4 bottles. You might need a couple green slips between now and then.

It's enough trust me as it's a magnum. Super rare find I made some time ago. My wife and I and kids, well adults, have enjoyed the fine wines France has to offer.

We won't get too crazy I promise 😁

Flew with him a couple times while he was planning this, almost two years ago. He said he did well with his money and that’s how he wanted to spend a large chunk of his nest egg. He figured at least several $100k. Recent word was closer to half a mil. He’s an interesting guy, always doing something. As was said, wrote a book about flying Vipers, finished the Boston Marathon at 60 on a completely torn hip, etc. OBTW, a good captain and great guy on the layo!

I truly hope you get to do that! Sounds like a great last layover! Good luck!

I heard it was 750K and took a bunch of his friends who took the early out from Covid - so they probably spent less than 100K a piece

Nick Bradshaw 03-01-2024 07:20 AM

I can't wait to see how the guy in SEA who cashed in PB days and banked a $200K month tops this when he retires.

We have several A's across the system on the 330 and 350 quitely making a million+ a year with LCA pay, green slips, and thunder/PBs.

It was about 80 people, apparently, $600k for the plane plus another $400k on the stuff in HI.

$1M for 24 hours...epic

Not including the flight, $5,000 per person for 24 hours in Hawaii? For that money, I hope they all at least got leid.

Boatbuilder 03-02-2024 04:39 AM

Good on him. He certainly left in style. Never seen a Brinks truck following a hearse.

im not convinced they paid anything. He strikes me as the kind of guy who would have paid for this himself.

Sounds more like it to me. Also he wrote a book - proceeds from that? If he writes another one he can write the whole thing off on his taxes.

I wasn't implying he charged his guests.

He put a post on BookFace. He paid for everything except the layover hotel. And he even picked up a few extra rooms for a couple people to ensure they could attend. Class act.

jaxsurf 03-03-2024 03:01 PM

Can’t believe he would spend his kids’ inheritance like that. The greed of these seniors knows no bounds 😤

notEnuf 03-03-2024 04:04 PM

To each their own. It just feels to me like he just gave Delta back his entire last years salary. I hope I have that much money to waste on treat myself when I'm headed out the door. BT was he a long time LCA like James? Nah, he couldn't be, they don't have enough to retire into the mountains of TN and start a backyard still.

It's just money. The memories from that charter are priceless

This just shows how much more economical it is to retire off the 717. Carry 110 of your friends and family to Daytona Beach 😀

What happened to James Bond?

That sounds incredible. I don’t always agree with you, but I 100% hope this happens for you and your family. Chartering a plane is really cool and I’m happy for that guy, but it’s not my style. A small bistro in Paris with my family and final crew enjoying a meal with some great wine sounds perfect. I genuinely hope this happens for you. Exactly like both of us picture it. I hope it happens for me a few years later.
