Divorce in MN

Hello all, anyone have any good divorce attorneys that are familiar with our careers in MN? Or general recommendations.

Thanks

Same here. However, to add another data point, it gave way to easily the BEST time of my entire life immediately afterwards. Life DOES get better, so don't let the dark storm clouds convince you that the storm will last forever. It's like a tempest. Horribly, terrifying, and the minutes seem like days. But, it will pass. and boy oh boy does the sun shine afterwards.

OP, I'm in MN also. LMK and I'll buy you a protein shake after you hit the gym (which is what you should be doing instead of drinking ANY alcohol during and immediately after this process)

Hit the gym. Lawyer up. Delete Facebook.

Yeah.

This, too, shall pass.

So sorry this is in your wheelhouse brother.

The only way forward is through. The obstacle is the way.

Memento Mori.

Living well is the best revenge.

Every single person I know who has been divorced is happier and would never go back to what they had. The pressures on society from social media, tv programming, evenings with friends, is just too much for the modern American to hold onto any kind of self identity. People just blow whichever way the wind is going at the moment. Get in shape, have fun, pickup long lost hobbies and be thankful that when you come to work you get to associate with people who are for the most part, fantastic. *We truly have a great group of people here.

Focus on you, your kids and family. The rest is BS. (no, not the optimizer guy).

*Some at the top are excluded from this general statement.

First things first. Watch “Divorce Corp” it’s a Netflix Documentary.

get a lawyer. Any lawyer, it doesn’t matter. They are all working together to get the most money out of this deal for themselves.

Find out what your spouse wants, triple it, and pay. That will cost half as much a years in court.

look up Kit Darby. He knows your profession (or thinks he does) and will be happy to help your spouse’s attorney convince the judge you make more money than you actually do. The fun part is he charges a lot and you get to pay for it.

I’ll just say this, much of the split comes down to ‘formulas’, from that the edges get massaged. Those include years married, W-2 amounts/differences, minor children, retirement $$ & plans.

I went through a complete settlement, not one cent or any collaboration after the final date. Not saying it’s the best for the next, but worked for me. My attorney costs were just over $5k. Of course much depends on the willingness of both parties to come to a settlement. I know some that end up years in the trenches, literally burning $$.

When no alternatives exist, treat it as something that just has to be done. It has been much better on the other side. Without posting detail, one can do some prep ahead of time. After one files your options are fewer.
