Aren't a few of those missing engines anyway?

This mornings WSJ on page A6 has the reciprocal trade carveout reinstated for both Boeing and Airbus mutually as a result of the US-EU trade deal. Let the Airbii flow….

The layflats failed testing…again. New EIS is TBD.

The team in charge of aircraft interiors has to be among the most egregiously incompetent at the air line.

777 refurb mess (then the pseudo cargo transformation prior to parking them for good)
764 D1 suites mess
717 new seats not meeting compliance (back to drawing board)
A350s without gasper vents
A321 CEOs with small overhead bins
A321 NEOs with granite seat cushions in FC that are already being replaced/ W&B issues.
A321 layflats with a vendor that hasn’t made them before

The list goes on and on. I’m sure I’m missing many others.

But at least they took the time to put together a shameless dnet article a couple years ago defending how tough their job is.

Is it them or the bosses above that won't give them the budget?

Imagine if aircraft seat MFRs had to get their products approved by the FAA and their counterparts around the world before they could be sold to the airlines...

Delta's investments might be questionable but AA has brand-new A321XLRs and 787s sitting uselessly in storage, not because of market issues, but because they failed spectacularly to get seats manufactured in time. This isn't just an interior design hiccup; it's crippling their already deficient widebody fleet, directly impacting their ability to compete and grow internationally. A strategic disaster.

I've used them, they seem pretty comfy. What's the issue?

I'm fairly certain that's a manufacturer issue. It may be an option, but a customer cannot retrofit after delivery as it's fairly deep in the AC and pressurization plumbing.

UA 764s don't have gaspers either. Very strange.

What percentage of Delta wide bodies have Delta One Suites?

The 764 seats are comfy, but they were originally designed to be full suites with a full closing door. Again a contract was signed with the cheapest bidder that hadn’t actually achieved certification yet and the FAA came back and said no, that design isn’t allowed. The 764 refurb went 2 years longer than planned mostly due to that.

Nope it’s a customer configuration regarding placement of overhead bins (or lack thereof). The gaspers are a pretty simple hookup, but again requires a competent design.
