What did I miss? This was simply a test. We had 100% control if we did not like the test. If we didn’t want the test then fine. Cancel the agreement or simply let it expire. Instead we negotiated an extension. Then we let the company do the programming and set a start date. After the company set a start date DALPA put out multiple communication to the pilots on how it would work at considerable effort by some volunteers. Then we allowed the company to put the MCO positions out to bid and award those bids. Only when the monthly bid process was about to start did we snatch it down! I bet if you were one of the pilots awarded a MCO bid you would have been on here screaming bloody murder!

the test was all but complete. The only thing remaining was to match pairings with pilots which, honestly, would have changed very little to the systemwide results of the test. Yes individually it obviously would have mattered and certainly ALL commuters can appreciate the opportunity of driving to work. But to continually say it was pulled down prematurely simply is not true. Many of us followed the process as it unfolded and still support the decision to end the VB experiment. It would not have ended well for the majority of the pilot group and that was clear by the point ALPA stopped the VB test.

what specifically did you see that would have been bad for the majority of the pilot group?

I can answer this. They could open and close VB at will.
It was a violation of seniority. Those in Atlanta would have category shrink unexpectedly. Those that live in VB but on wrong fleet were out of luck. |

If you read the LAX LEC newsletters from a couple years ago, it's the other way around - ATL and NYC are shamelessly taking LAX's share of Europe flying!! ;)
