ALPA: Raise The Age Doublespeak

Honest answer. I wasn't trying to reinvigorate the raise the age debate. Just pointing out ALPA's malleability on the retirement age change issue. It's been "yes, no, yes," as cited in the OP. But since you opened the door, please provide a reference for the "solid majority" you mention. I'm unaware of any ALPA polling that has gauged membership sentiment. But I'm ready to be enlightened. I agree that you cannot serve both sides of the issue. However, 'flip-flopping" on the issue is possible, and well-demonstrated by our union.
The only flip flop I am aware of was in 2007, when - as now - the super majority opposed raising the age. But the writing was on the wall, and ALPA decided to be ‘at the table’ instead of ‘on the menu’. I have no issue with that decision, as it helped shape the law to prevent returns, among other items. That simply could not happen, from an unworkable logistical/training perspective as much as any other.
Again, there is a huge difference between defending current members getting unexpectedly fired vs. upholding the will of the membership against a change from status quo.
Glad we agree on the bold. (Super) majority wins.
