Delta Flight Cancellations

Hearing plenty about this in the news and social Media lately but have not experienced it first hand yet - is this mostly fleet specific? We definitely have the feel of 'The wheels are coming off" and I have personally had a lot of BS delays for really stupid stuff that to me points to an all around drop in experience. The WBs seem to be cancelling more, but not at newsworthy levels. This summer is going to be interesting to say the least. How is your particular fleet doing?

Go look at ATL320B open time right now, there are three full pages for just today. That's AFTER 17 QS/GS/IA and a handful of reserve assignments have been handed out.

To be fair, it IS a Monday and there is clear weather basically everywhere in the country. Difficult to cover trips under those conditions. /s

How none of this is getting any attention in the C-suites is mind boggling.

Oh, it is getting a LOT of attention. There will be changes soon.

I hope you are right. Our current management team is clearly in over their heads and our company is tanking.

It's funny they are blaming 23M7 for the cancellations; I am sure it has nothing to do with the max Duty days and sub-11-hour overnights in the bid packet. I am sure it will have nothing to do with pilots being burnt out and or fatigued. Are pilots taking advantage of 23M7? Yes, they are, but it's in the contract. Just like Silver Slips not having a leveling mechanism, it sucks, but it is what it is.

People are burned out, and it isn’t even the heat of summer yet. On ATL 717B you can get a premium trip every single day if you want. Even double pay isn’t enticing any more when it’s so readily available. Even if you want to fly you have to deal with an avalanche of ARCOS calls at all hours of the day. It’s even worse when you want something in the morning and you know the QS call won’t come till the dead of night. And even if you have a regular PBS trip (hello ALV of 84) odds are it sucks to begin with and will only get worse with the inevitable reroutes.

So yeah, people are either just done or are being so incredibly selective when they want to work and will only come in for something stupid easy. Very few people are picking up crappy premium trips because it will inevitably be split into easier ones and most likely even junior people will get as many bites of the apple as they want. Too much of even a good thing makes it start tasting like dirt.

I've been telling anyone who will listen for years that the up and coming generations have much different ideas about work than the outgoing ones. Not that that view of work is necessarily a negative but they don't want to die in their work chair, if you will.

On Saturday we almost had as many cancelations as Spirit…
