MD's have no freezes

As I read SD's memo, all of the -9 parking this fall would be reflected in this AE.

I'm a DALS guy and frankly am a little miffed as to why they are parking the -9s since they are paid for.

I feel the same way about the 747-200s - I just think there is money to be made flying Military stuff.

Saudi's say oil is priced right, maybe the parking of the -9s will be delayed.

Anyone got a synopsis of latest and greatest rumors, theories, innuendos, dot connections, lies, etc.

Scambo
Thanks Scambo. It does kind of suck. We just went from having a 100 seater to a having a 124 seater (A-319) as being the smallest thing we fly.

For me personally, I wonder if I get displaced to the MD-90 in MSP then decide that MSP is waaay to cold and too far away for me, or I'm just getting too junior: Do I incur a freeze of any kind if I bid NYC MD-88?

Summary: If I'm on the -90 and bid the -88, do I get a freeze?

New, are you down here in Memphis?
Its been a few years but when I bid the 88 in SLC I did 100% of my training in 88 simulators. The 90 differences training consisted of a scheduled 4 hour classroom block during the last week. Most guys were done in less then 1 hour since you could just take the differences exam.

Scoop - Who to this day, has never laid eyes on the DAL MD-90 simulator even after flying SLC MD-88/90 for two years.

PS: NewKnow - There are no freezes ever for a Mandatory Displacement.
Quote: My "educated" guess is that if you get MD'd to the MD90, go thru qualification training and then AE to the MD88 at a base that does not fly the 90, then no you would not incur a freeze because qualification training is not required. Now, if you go the opposite way from an MD88 only category to one that flys both and so incur qualification training on the 90, then I THINK you do incur a freeze. Whether it is 9 months or 2 years is a question. I THINK it is 9 mo. which would be similar to the 767 to 767-400.

Denny Crane!! You answered my question perfectly. This announcement has me tumbling a bit and I have some decisions that have to be made that I thought could wait.

I'm doing a little studying right now, but do you mind if I bend your PM ear with a few of my thoughts/questions when I get caught up?

ACL, you too.

No, a freeze only occur when there is training involved, and you weren't MDed. There's no training from the -90 to the -88.

If it's not much sim, the freeze is only 9 months, from when you were awarded the bid. Example: 7ER to 765 (the 767-400) - same type rating, just a differences course and 2-3 sims.

New,

PM me any time!! I couldn't find anything specific in the contract with regards to the 88/90 about your question but I'm pretty sure that's the way it is. My understanding is that a freeze is directly related to qualification training. To be sure you could always call the union on monday.

Denny
Just one thing for DL(N) guys and DL(S) guys who haven't been here long enough to experience a big AE. When these are big, they can be really far reaching, so don't bid anything you don't want right now because you've got a good chance of getting it.

AEs and VDs - Bid only what you really want right now, don't store stuff in there thinking you'd like it a couple years down the road.

MDs - Make sure you have more options than you think you could ever possibly need.

Naaah. I'm based in DTW. A litlle more than 1/3 up the list and wondering who is going to do what.

What are the senior people above me going to do?
What is the compny going to do to the people who are junior to me?

My guess is that parking those airplanes alone would place me at best in the bottom 10% in DTW.

But when you throw in the increased domestic flying and the migration to NYC and ATL that I see coming, who knows?

Not complaining: But this is another reason why the APA system was a little better. You could see displacements coming at you. Now we have to plan for a possible displaclement that would occur almost a year from now.... (I am happy to have good options, though)

What are you going to do, capn?

You mentioned you were worried about the cold so it made me think you were down here in BBQ land listening to Elvis.

I am going to work my way back to Anchorage. Shoot for SLC initially, then to SEA when the 76s go there and then ANC when we acquire Alaska Airlines.

At that point I will be back to the reason I came to NWA in the first place, the ANC base. Heaven on earth.
College football is a scam. I like to watch it, but there is NO national champion or championship game. There are 5 undefeated teams this year. Texas, Alabama, Boise State, Texas Christian, and Cincinnati. They all deserve a shot. I don't buy into strength of schedule crap. That is an excuse the sports writers use to defend their broken system. Utah was the only undefeated team last year, but the writers refused to call them national champions. The system is a joke.
