This. So many people are so anxious to get out NYC it seems. Unless you live in base or are doing a transcon commute leaving doesn't really make sense for a little bit. I've seen many people bid out while holding a line to now bidding reserve. If it works better for them ok but bidding out of NYC just because it's NYC is short sighted IMO. I'd rather commute to a line than reserve any day.

Yes, I've been looking hard at bidding over to nyc but I'm right on the cusp of having a commutable line up there. For me having an uncommutable line in nyc is worse than being on the bubble in Atlanta and being a line holder some months and a reserve others. I'm going to continue to evaluate.

New guy here. Does a "commutable line" mean you can fly in the same day your trip starts, and fly home the same day your trip ends, and therefore no crash pad required?

1-2 nights in a NYC hotel costs more than a month in most crash pads.

If you're looking for seniority and schedule and plan to commute anyway you're doing yourself a disservice not considering NYC. The 3 airport coverage, early sign-ins and WX stink, but your schedule and seniority will be significantly better. For reference, when I left NYC I was #13/92 FOs, when I got to ATL I was approximately #210/232.
Where are you commuting from? |

I would be commuting from Jackson MS, so it would be a two leg commute for NY. One short leg for ATL and the option to drive (about 5 hours). I'm looking for the best schedule so I can have time with my kids (10 &12) for weekends, holidays, and activities. Thanks!
