Denny We're getting the ones with the slow processor and inadequate memory. Except Steve Dickson. He gets an iPad. And a bonus for saving Delta money on tablets. |

One big detractor of the iPad is that there is no USB port on it and Apple refuses to put one in.

True, but its Delta tradition to pee away gobs of money before realizing what they should have done to begin with. |

Denny The Surface is a lot like the MD88 that way. Nothing in the build* that can't be fixed via a bulletin. REVISION "*" : Wrote "design" but there is no indication the MD88 was designed. It seems to have been assembled from whatever parts were left over from previous efforts with DC-9's and DC-10's. |
I'm curious to why people are comparing the newest ipads to the oldest or least capable Surfaces? If Delta goes with the oldest, cheapest, and least capable Surfaces, why would you think they wouldn't get the oldest, cheapest, and least capable ipads they could get?
How does this sound... ipad 2 isn't that powerful, the Surface 4 pro is so much better. |

For anyone who cares, the iPad air 2 won the trials at Endeavor vs the Surface 3, which failed due to freezing issues.

You can expect to receive Bulletins and Memos; lots of Bulletins and Memos. If you can't sign back in while turning to intercept final while simultaneously holding down the power and volume down button to reset the Surface then YOUR PROBLEM is just operator error.

My ASAP included that detail: Surface froze up necessitating the transfer of controls. Some how that little nugget didn't make it into the hangar flying narrative that went out to the masses and was nicely glossed over with no reason given for the why the transfer of control was made. |

Not long ago I had an emergency where the captain gave me the aircraft and radios while he handled all the other duties. Long and short of it is that when it came time for the brief I asked him to go over the approach while I kept flying. His Surface was frozen like frosty and so he took over the flying at that point while I briefed it. We ended up leaving it like that and he did the approach and landing.

Do not know what everyone os complaining about. Microsoft acts like having a Frozen Surface is a good thing. They market it even. My daughters are delighted. |

This is progress? My old bag of Jepps never froze up, and unlike a tablet, was virtually theft-proof! :D

On the other hand, if we still carried around 30lbs worth of Jepps we could get Delta Health Rewards dollars. Win-win!

Next poll...who prefers a bag full of Jepps and revisions to a Surface? I think you'd have to be nuts, but that's just me...

True, however the surface has yet to replace the bag of jepps. Airlines that went with the IPad were paperless in 6 months. We are into this 3 years with no sign of getting rid of the bag of Jepps.
And unless something has changed VERY recently, UAL still carries ship sets. So they don't have to lug them around, but neither do DAL pilots ;) |

Not all. One company went with the surface and was paperless about 6 months later.
