Thanks for the suggestions and insights guys. Ended up being denied boarding for MSP - SLC since we reached the podium at 10 min prior to published schedule, although it was delayed :20 on the board ( surely lady agent " we're done"). 20 seats open. Nice holiday spirit to your fellow employees! Eventually got out to PHX after buying a Zed on WN from there to LAS. The final leg home was wide open and Southwest agents couldn't have been nicer after we sprinted to the gate with little time to spare - just the opposite of our MSP gate crew. Another Nrev adventure success ( barely) in the books. Good to be home. Merry Christmas to all!

HK's are already accounted for on the Travelnet seats available numbers.

These folks have purchased a seat but it has not been assigned yet, usually at the gate, but the availability numbers on the trAvelnet account for them.

Seats on the airport standby list don't account for HKs, and they will get seats first......

Happened to me in April too - trying to go CDG-DTW, but the flight got full the night before, so we bunted and went CDG-BOS, got business class. But BOS-DTW on a Sunday was impossible, so we went BOS-LGA-(terminal change, main to Marine in 35 mins)-DCA and stayed at my dad's house for the night, then went DCA-DTW the next morning.

The domestic part was the hardest!

had the same thing for my parents today out of AMS. AMS-ATL showing oversold by 15+, so they went on something else and the ATL flights ended up leaving with empty seats.

They picked the sure thing. Worked out fine just got them home hours later. Just wish the airport standby list and numbers were accurate for ams departures

As a career non-revver,(50+ years) the point is, do not leave the gate till they count noses on the airplane. I have been #5 on a overbooked flt. and got on. Everybody else had vamoosed. Wooden shoes cut of your circulation and make it hard to perform calculations. (AMS)
