I've been to the following two restaurants and both are well worth the time and effort.

Clinkerdagger's at http://www.r-u-i.com/cli/

Catacombs Pub at http://www.catacombspub.com/

de727ups and I went to a dive hamburger place also, but I don't recall the name. It's very close to the Red Lion. We had a great time there - the food that is. Company was good, too.

You can walk along the river. Gonzaga U. is right there, good eye candy in summer....
If you walk downtown there are several pubs and good restaurants just across the river. There also is an ice skating rink, movie theater and mall within walking distance.

O' Daugherty's, a great irish pub. It's across the street from the carousel at riverfront park.

Fast Eddies, on the first corner you come to if you cross the bridge going south over the river. Good food, sports bar, great place for a freight dawg to hang out. Kinda divey, though.

Anthony's, a seafood place on the north side of the river, across from the library. Upscale, great view of the river and falls.

The Viking Tavern offers probably the best selection of rotating taps (lots of craft brews) I've ever seen. The food is good. Its a diverse crowd: blue collar, white collar, students, professors, and all types in between. Its not far from the Red Lion. You won't be disappointed.

Franks diner is the ****. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had.
