Default Orlando

Heading down next week for a couple days to see the shuttle launch.

Just wondering who has info on good places to eat, things to see, etc while we're there. The only two sure things are Kennedy Space Center and the Launch viewing Friday afternoon which will take the better part of the day getting there early and all.

Looking at staying at the Mariott courtyard. $62, and option to cancel day of if needed. We plan on renting a car so distance isn't too much of an issue.

Thanks!

Do NOT buy gas for your car near MCO! I paid $5.69 yesterday. They do not post the prices. It's $3.77 everywhere else. Fill up a few exits away. I hate Orlando. The traffic sucks. The tolls suck. Good luck.

I second what Ottopilot said!! Got caught at the pump putting fuel in the car before I noticed how fast my dollars were disappearing. Luckily I was able to expense it. If you feel like being super touristy hit Disney (specifically Epcot.)

Have a good trip & enjoy the launch. I got to enjoy about 15 varies launches from my roof over my years down there & each one was as impressive as the last.

If you have the time, Kermit Weeks' Fantasy Of Flight in Polk City, near Kissimme is worth the trip, pricey but an excellent way to spend a day. Spend some time on the beach, but bring sun screen, pretty decent beaches in the area.

I did Fantasy of Flight the other day. It's worth the price ($28?). Use AAA, tourist guide/coupon book, or online coupon to save $4 per ticket.

Or just look at my photos:

A few photos at the end are from Warbird Adventures. No I didn't pay $750 for a SNJ ride, but I wanted to.

thanks guys. Some neat stuff to look into

Any other hotels that have decent airline rates? The mariott is booked up apparently. With the car I don't mind just a cheap expedia but I like the option to cancel day of with the airline rates.

On one of you photos, you put Douglass Dauntless? as the caption. Its a TBM/TBF (pending if it was built by Grumman (F) or General Motors(M)) Avenger. I've done restoration work on another TBM restoration near Lancaster, PA and know the airplanes really well. Looks like a -3 model. The -1 (up through the -1C had a .30 Cal gun on the rear facing window aft of the torpedo doors. The -1 series had weapons (one per side) in each wing. Not to preach, but the Turkey is one of my all time favorites and I'm a BIG warbird connoisseur.

Go to priceline, a lot of crews are bidding on rooms while commuting and ending up in some of the nicer hotels. If you have some time and can make it over to I drive, check out Texas de Brazil. Outstanding (and i am very picky) food, the meats are amazing.
