Upgrade Times

Is there a delay for upgrades, or is it pretty much as soon as you reach your 1,000?

Also, I know MSP is super senior for CA’s but what are the other bases like?

SurelySerious 06-09-2018 05:36 AM

First, you need to get hired here before you can worry about upgrading. My understanding is that if you worked here, you could figure out the numbers.

This has been discussed in many different groups

I think after this summer quick upgrades are gonna come to a halt. The last couple upgrade classes have been huge, almost twice as big compared to like 3-5 monthes ago. A major reason for hiring slow down is to get a lot people through the upgrade pipeline and we have a good chunk of expressjet guys upgrading. Some are ground school upgrades. The 2015 hires were very slow to move over, and that’s where a lot of their issues came from. The 2016 hires are taking the upgrade a lot faster. Pretty much as soon as they’re eligible. Big reasons was 2015 hires could hold MSP FO and didn’t want to commute where as 2016 hires all got NYC in ground school.

Hiring is picking up full swing again next month since the CZ deal didn’t go through.

Do you feel better now?

And what CZ deal was that?

Well, early last week mainline supposedly met with TSH to acquire CZ but they didn’t strike a deal because TSH wanted more than what daddy Dixie was wanting to pay. However you want to correlate it to 9E (as I have by conjecture and adding 2+2) is your prerogative.

I don’t; hence my asking. 🤔

Don't mind him. There's a few grumpy ones here, but they don't speak for the rest of us.

Totally feel better. By the time someone gets hired, goes through training and actually starts flying and gaining time up to 1000... so many things will change. Good luck all with the forecast of any company that far ahead

He's right.

The OP is basically asking what it's going to be like 2 years from now.

Whether or not people are getting upgraded at 1000tpic right now has little to no bearing on this person's future at Endeavor. It's a poor way to choose a regional airline to start your career.

Just sayin.

Get in and get that seniority number. Attrition is about 20/month give or take and is expected to stay at that pace since SSP is basically over and who knows about DGI, it's still only a promise (DL has actually stopped hiring for the summer). People will continue to go to SWA, NK, B6, etc, etc as those companies are are now getting better contracts and are easier to get on with than legacy mainline, and at least second year there you will make more than a CA here on gaurentee, and get to go to to overnights that aren't Cleveland. Personally I think the time to have come here was ~2 years ago, but if we get those nice shiny 175s and some west coast hotties to ask us if we need anything before closing the door, maybe current hires will do pretty good as well. lol

I heard Delta doesn't hire anyone who says "lol."

Wrong. They do. They just don’t hire pilots whom are actually commercial aviators.

Any Updates

Are upgrades still happening at 1000 hrs? I have about 800 prior 121. Just curious. I'd actually prefer to go to a place where I can sit in the right seat a bit longer. It's a been a little while since my 121 days.

I think it slowed down a bit. Either way you’re not forced to upgrade here so you can sit right seat as long as you want.

As of the last vacancy it’s still basically new hire on the 200 here, about 1.5-2 years for the 900. With company offering 20 upgrades a month on average (40 each bimonthly vacancy as of late) and 40 or so becoming eligible per month upgrade time will increase if things stay status quo especialllllly with the Dgi carrot. Who knows what’s next as far as growth tho.

Let's assume that I'd have bottom class seniority for a September class date. Would I get 200 DTW or 200 NYC?

New York. Detroit, While not Msp senior captain wise, it’s a few years to hold. It’s last I checked a early 2016 hire. New York is new hires

That's true for CA, but if he is talking about FO, you can hold that while you're still in training

blindfayth 07-09-2018 05:50 AM

Yeah I'm talking about FO.

I don't care about airframe. Just want DTW.

As of last week's seniority list, the last DTW 200 slot is held by a March 26 hire.

Also, they probably haven't even finished training yet.

Correct, still waiting for OE.

blindfayth 07-09-2018 09:07 AM

If I were to take 200 DTW out of training, assuming it's an option, when would I be able to switch to 900 DTW as an FO? Is there a seat lock out of training?

Punkah Louvre 07-09-2018 09:23 AM

Seat Lock

Yes, per the new contract, 18 months.
It can be waived of course; depending on the needs of the company.

Don't count on an FO to FO lock being released unless there is either a new fleet introduced or an old fleet taken out of service.
