Endeavor or Skywest

Hey everyone,

Just looking for some insight as to which one to pick. I will be living in Minneapolis. Is the extra pay and supposedly better work rules worth commuting to New York for? Or would I be better off going to skywest just for the junior MSP base?

Endeavor for sure. Republic over Sky as well. They have some based near you.

I’ve done both. Picked OO first because I thought being closer to home would offset the lower pay. Then I made the mistake of picking the ERJ and never flew, was never home (ORD).

Made the jump to 9E, got MSP based and am well paid now. I still don’t fly, but I’m close to home.

As for your situation, I wouldn’t count on an MSP base with 9E. I would recommend OO in the CRJ - you can get MSP almost immediately and will fly like crazy, all while living in base (the most important factor in this equation). The pay isn’t as different now as when I made the jump.

Just free advice from the internet...

Honestly I would never consider Skywest before but now with our very slow movement and not having any classes available till later 2019 I would go to Skywest. Pick the CRJ and from what I understand it is a junior base for FOs and CAs. Here at EDV you can get it as a FO but will take you 15 years to get it as a CA. Their pay is better now and I believe it matches Republic. Being home based is a huge QOL item.

Skywest 100% no questions asked if you're from MSP. You'll never see it as a captain at endeavor and it's the Jr CA base at skywest. Living in base is amazing commuting to Kew gardens and a co domicile is not.

This advice will last for your entire career. Living in base = QOL period!
Endeavor may have better pay rates but SkyWest has decent duty rigs now. Go to the airline that will let you be at home. If you are in MSP then that airline is SkyWest. Another plus is OO (SkyWest) is growing right now and 9E (Endeavor) is not. Our growth is only a rumor at this point. Even if you were lucky enough to get called back by HR you would be stuck on reserve in NYC for well over a year unless we bring +20 new jets online.

Lots of Endeavor guys will talk smack about the OO guys. At the end of the day we are all equals operating the same types of aircraft in similar working conditions. The people I see who hate their lives the most are the ones who have to commute to base.

Skywest sucks. But you should definitely go there over 9E in your situation. Just my two cents.
