Hat or no hat

Do you wear the hat or no? If you do why?

Yes, sometimes. I just like hats. It’s not a political statement, it’s a hat.

JulesWinfield 05-04-2019 06:22 AM

I don't, because it's a pain to pack as a commuter.

Packrat 05-04-2019 06:39 AM

Not required by our uniform regs.

seminolepilot 05-04-2019 07:29 AM

Nope I’ve never been a hat person. I’d probably lose it every other trip and be on the Facebook page trying to find it. Thankfully it’s optional for us. If I end up somewhere where it’s required I’ll wear it all day.

ninerdriver 05-04-2019 07:30 AM

I wear it because I'm outstanding.

Some other people don't wear it, and they're outstanding, too.

Basically, wear it if you'd like. Don't let anyone else make the decision for you.

LNL76 05-04-2019 07:36 AM

I'd bet most of you would trip over yourselves to wear it if it was a baseball cap (bonus points for wearing it backwards)!

IAFDOF 05-04-2019 08:45 AM

Our hat badge looks like ass.

As long as it’s not a Cubs hat.

This. It's nasty. Plus FOs hats are extra nasty so if you're an fo don't wear it.

Boats and Hos 05-04-2019 11:31 AM

Actually

If you are, or intend to go into training, from the Grand Puba himself, you MUST wear your hat or quit! Good thing we have a contract, EXCEPT, for DGI of course.

vessbot 05-04-2019 12:13 PM

Haters gonna hate, hatters gonna hat

Fourpaw 05-04-2019 12:22 PM

Badge looks terrible. The badge should just be the endeavor swoosh and that’s it. It looks like a giant billboard.

Redesign the badge to not look stupid and the people will come.

YEP. I hate compass hat brass

clueless 05-04-2019 03:12 PM

I don't...I would lose it for sure. Personally I do think it looks more professional, but only if it's the right size and you know how to wear it.

If you wear a hat because you like the way it looks, or for some other personal reason, cool corn man, go for it.

If you wear a hat because you think some delta pilot is going to see you in the terminal and think "hey that guy should work for Delta, I'm gonna give him a recommendation"....well...good luck with that

I literally had a conversation with an FO who told me he wears the hat because "he wants to get hired at delta". When I asked him how it would get him hired at delta, he had no answer. Just brainwashed.

Side note...is LA to Vegas coming back or did that get canxed?

PotatoChip 05-04-2019 03:13 PM

I recently just quit, but yes, I always wore my hat.
Why? Because I liked it. Truly.

AimHigh1 05-04-2019 03:50 PM

I wear it with the blazer

Agree ^ It looks cheap. Wish they would redesign it..

KSCessnaDriver 05-04-2019 05:21 PM

I wear it, mostly to use as a junk drawer when I get to the hotel. Lay it upside down, throw small stuff into it so you don't forget it.

Junk drawer, you mean purse!

vessbot 05-04-2019 07:38 PM

It's European!

TalkTurkey 05-05-2019 04:40 AM

I don’t wear it because the emblem looks like it was designed by a complete moron.

Wearing it is indirectly or directly siding with the company. Not wearing it is indirectly or directly siding with the union. And pilot unity creates a strong union, which can be applied at negotiations. If half are already wearing it for free, it carries little weight.

Why do some of the union guys wear it then?

GreenerPastures 05-05-2019 02:54 PM

I don’t wear it simply because I don’t like to wear hats. No other reason. I have no issue with pilots who do wear it. But I do see some guys wearing it poorly. There is a proper way to wear a uniform hat, and we don’t have people in the company explaining this to new hires. I’ve unfortunately seen more than a few of our FOs wearing a hat that’s too big and their ears stick out. Looks bad. I’ve been debating on whether to say something, but I don’t want to kill their vibe or come across as a D Bag Captain. If you wear it, just wear it well and own it ladies and gents. It seems to me that the passengers respond well to hat wearing pilots, so do it if you like. Just do it correctly please. My simple observations.

So what? Baseball caps don't look silly on people with small heads.

darkman62 05-09-2019 09:51 PM

Hats

I don’t wear it because it’s not required & I still have a full head of hair! Wore one w/ previous life’s. Not going to wear unless it’s required besides I know I would always loose it. And no chicks don’t dig them

Fourpaw 06-02-2019 04:11 PM

This just in...the company is doing nothing about the logo.

The original design from third grader little MC No Name is staying despite obvious complaints.

Apparently the more metal they use from their vendor the cheaper the price, hence the 1.5lb ornament on your head.

Mesabah 06-02-2019 04:24 PM

Yes, not only does it look hideous, my hat emblem is also out of spec, and sits off center on the hat. Just terrible quality control, I would be embarrassed to wear it.

Good thing 20 years ago our company chief pilot negotiated as MEC Chairman that hats (and accompanying emblem) are optional here despite what we now spews as chief pilot. ;)

You got your hat emblem already? I’m still waiting for mine via USPS.

TalkTurkey 06-03-2019 10:48 AM

I don’t because it makes my head/hair look like a mushroom stamp.

popcopy 06-03-2019 10:54 AM

I wear the hat because it is a part of the complete uniform. For me, it is also an expression of self dignity when in public view. (oops, i'm not an EDV pilot, but whatever.)

Is the hat hole off center or the center pin of the medallion off center? If it's the medallion you should be able to request a new one from the company. (Though I might wait a month or two so they don't identify you as Mesabah) If it's the hat itself I guess you're out of luck, maybe crew outfitters will help you out.

Regardless wearing the hat is a choice, if you choose not to, no worries.

It's the center pin, the hat is perfect, if I wanted, I could cut it off and resolder it on properly.
