As for reserve, you can get a line a month or 2 after ioe in dtw at skywest. The pay rates are better at edv as are the work rules, but you'll be on capt pay, off reserve, and in the base you want at skywest a lot sooner too.

What? If there is an upgrade awarded to a pilot, any senior pilot had the opportunity to also bid for that upgrade. Unless you're saying base changes for existing captains that Upgraded quickly. Is that what you meant? If you want an upgrade, everyone knows you take the first available and then hope for a base change later. That's why a Junior pilot can hold a captain slot in a base that an FO can't upgrade in.

First I’ve heard that more reserve lines are a positive.
Percentages are typically used instead of absolute number of reserve lines because it’s relative.

It's called being adequately staffed versus a shoe-string staffing level

Sorry I meant at skywest. The skywest guy was hired a year after the edv guy and just got awarded upgrade in dtw. I think the edv should get it really soon though.

That's exactly what I did. I'm one of those Jan 17 hires that upgraded last fall. My upgrade slot was to NY which I wasn't thrilled with but on the next vacancy was able to get Detroit.... Before I even went to class. Of course I'll be reserve for probably another 6 months plus... But hey... I keep my commute and crash pad simple and gradually pick up some flying.
