My take on skywest/edv

1) both are reasonable options. There are no good regionals but there are bad ones.

2) skywest is a 6 month wait. If EDV can seat you significantly sooner, go there.

3) expect chaos in the regional world before you upgrade. The attrition pressures are too strong. 50-seat flying will cease soon. Decent chance multiple certificates go dormant.

You’re assigned either 200 or 7/900. There have been split classes but the overwhelming majority of new hires are being assigned 7/900. I would say you have about a 90-95% chance of getting the 7/900.

I hope the company doesn't force anyone to upgrade if they arent ready.

We do not have contact provisions to my knowledge that would allow forced upgrades. I know some of the AA guys have it

"50 seat flying will cease soon." ?

I believe I first heard that back in 2005?

Comair had 160 CRJ100/200s, Pinnacle around 150. You can find the majority in Kingman. Yeah, the 50 seaters are dying. With attrition the way it is, industry wide, who will fly them?

Correct. 9E can't force anyone to upgrade.

I don’t think you have to wait for the summer. Captain side went all red for the rest of the month in every base with a boat load of open time and very very limited reserves. The 19th and 20th showing ZERO reserves. Something needs to happen soon.

Bet they will convert captains from 7/9 to 200 to keep them all flying

If they can’t staff the 200, they certainly
wont park 900s to make it happen. 200s, and 50 seaters in general, are dying. Just like the turboprops, the public despises them. And how many turboprops do you see flying for domestic carriers now? 200s will be gone when they can’t staff them. Period.
