Speaking of tax happy idiots, how does it work for tax filing for commuters? I live in Kansas, may end up commuting to NY (Class doesn't start for me until October)...the checks come from Delta (in MN or GA?), do you just file for home state and state where you're based?

Memphis mafia, the training department of the NMFC were the worst. It was a war on pilots. They also had this "neato" trick where theyd fail you for an oral over something insane in systems or the stupid book they called the FOM. By the way, have you ever wondered how an FOM can have multiple answers to the same question? Me too, still waiting for an explination. I just assumed it was a lack of reading comprehension but it had the added benefit of letting check airmen make **** up to fail you. Like, why is the CRJ even using the AC generators? Why doesnt it have DC gens like a turboprop? They would pretend those were questions they werent making up but they were and they got caught on audio doing it. Funny thing about TN, single party consent to tape yourself. How about the dry weight of just the wing? Yup. Theres no reference to any of this.
Why you ask? Why the war on pilots? This slimey filth would fail pilots because they didnt like them, then theyd call their buddy up and tell him to call training to grab the oral at 200% tomorrow for this guy he was about to fail. Guy would call up, say im not doing anything tomorrow lemme know if i can pick up an oral or sim session. At some point you have to ask was training scheduling in on that? Who knows. I fully believe it was a scam at every level.
So checkairmen #2, the buddy, would pick up the re-oral in the morning and fail him (last minute saving the company), and pass him off to his buddy, which was the same trick. Then you both owed the first guy a favor which you would repay. Basically turning failures into for profit horse****, and this was your career they were destroying btw.
Anyway, do us all a favor. When u see a number that looks like pinnacle, be polite, make sure it isnt a mesaba guy first that didnt have his number changed. Hope you all make it to delta. Dont think too much about pinnacle or the nmfc. We purposefully destroyed them and their training department. It wont happen here.

That’s a lot! Sorry you experienced that.. I do know that wasn’t the majority of Express/Pinnacle pilots but we did have some that took things too far in the orals and check rides.and I experienced some of that as well but not to the extent you described.. Try not to judge the many when it’s the few who messed it up.. Every airline has its problems and unfortunately some of us get the short end of the stick… But we have to learn from it and move on..

Memphis mafia, the Northern Mississippi Flying Club (NMFC) to me were just kinda co-located terms. Not because theyre the same exactly, just that we mesaba guys had to excise two tumors on top of each other. There may be times when we joked Pinnacle management was running the NMFC or the head clown of the circus- circus being the NMFC.

Pinnacle Pete and the Memphis Mafia are largely gone. Few old dudes hanging around as APDs have helped form the MSP Mafia, but they’ve mellowed out massively. It’s nothing like the training from Non-caring Blvd. when every CQ was the checkride for your job.
