PHL Crew Domicile

I have been hearing things about LAX and PHL crew domiciles in various places on these boards. I even spoke with Fabregas and he mentioned expanding more in the northeast in the coming year, but I just passed it off as typical optimism expansion talk bla bla.

I know everything is just a rumor until it isn’t, but was wondering if anybody had any insight on this that’s more than purely speculative.

DilsonWic 01-23-2018 05:58 AM

Make sure you take all responses as entertainment to this question. Not one person that posts on here has any “real” insight.

Pat2389 01-23-2018 06:03 AM

Ha I guess that’s true. Oh well, entertain me. That’s what this place is really for lol

It entertaining until it becomes aggravating.

Or aggravating until it becomes entertaining.

Even if it HAS happened, you still have those that try to skew the truth to their perspective.

Liars figure and figures lie.

DilsonWic 01-23-2018 06:20 AM

But PHL is oddly a strong rumor of a new base. Why? Who knows?

190 flying going away and need to use 175s to replace that lift is the speculation that makes the most sense.

How much wiggle room is left in scope?

Good question. It's tough to figure out with all the contact carriers flying around.

Newstick189 01-23-2018 07:10 AM

If ENY moves to PHL, PDT and ENY might as well merge.

If anything it will be 50 seat flying because we lost 50 airplanes worth of flying out of here (AWAC) with both PDT and PSA trying to cover it.

This is all I can come up with. First start in the merging process. Open like bases.

This actually makes the most sense of anything I’ve heard, though speculative

If they configure all CR7 to 65 seats there's actually quite a bit of room. AA's narrowbody fleet has been holding around 800 aircraft. 40% of that number can be large RJs so around 320 total.

Republic-86 E75
Compass-20 E75
Envoy-54 E75 (when delivered)
Mesa-64 CR9
PSA-54 CR9

Total 278

Breaking it down even farther there can be 75% of total AA narrowbody fleet in RJs which puts the number around 600 total RJs large and small.

Skywest/ASA-57 CR7 (8 more than current coming online this summer)
Envoy/PSA-61 CR7

Total 118

Where it gets interesting is the 50/44 seat fleet. The E140 will fill in the remainder of the total RJ count as AW and maybe some of the 11 SKYW CR2 leave the fleet

TSA/PDT/Envoy-118 E145
Envoy-49 E140
PSA-35 CR2

Total 202

Grand Total 598

If you've read this far the limiting factor currently isn't large RJ scope it's total RJ scope. That's probably why they're not adding those 10 Envoy E75 until Q4. They'll likely need to phase out some of the short term lift that SKYW was doing with their CR2 or CR7 (less Likely) in order to accommodate those E75 for Envoy. There are some assumptions on my part in there but I think it paints a pretty accurate picture of the RJ scope at AA

Thank you for running these numbers. I was under the impression that the large RJs were the cap right now, not the total number so I appreciate you clearing that up.

The original PSA CR7s are still configured over 65 seats, right? Are there plans to change that, or is it just speculation that they will? I've been hearing "if they bring them down to 65 seats" for a couple years now.

The 14 original PSA CR7 had 67 seats. Really not sure if they've reconfigured them or not. I heard they did but a PSA guy would know more than me. The 47 Envoy birds all have 65/63 seat configurations. I believe the 12+8 ASA CR7 all have 65 seats in them while the remaining 37ish CR7 operated by SKYW mostly have the 70 seat configuration that they kept when they came off contract with United.

They have all been reconfigured to 65 seats, some of the ENY transfers have 63, dunno if they are are gonna change those to 65 too or not.

This is good! more upgrades for the E175 baby bus!

Seaplane 01-23-2018 11:04 AM

Where are the 190s going? Does AA not want to staff them anymore? Could those ever end up at a regional like envoy?

They're being retired to answer your first two questions. To your third: hell no.

I think that would be good for our pilot group.

I know OKC is getting service this summer with the E175 to PHL.

Retired to the desert? Seems like a lot of money to stash. Wonder why they don’t sell I’m sure some carrier in another country would want them.

They’re retiring them because they don’t fit the fleet plan and also the engines are close to timed out.

I wouldn’t doubt if they’re sold outright at a later time.

I don't know the financials, if they're being sold or anything, but they are being phased out of AA's fleet in 2019.

That will be done by Republic. They are expanding their PHL AA flying this year.

What would you call it then? You already call the 175 a "baby 737"

Scope won’t allow them to come to regionals.

I wouldn't doubt that y'all get PHL. AA hasn't given us, PSA, any new flying since last fall. There is a growing rumor yalls 7s are staying or going to XJT. XJT just got awarded two new 7 routes out of CLT.

We cannot grow anymore CAs and our union said that AA is not happy with us at the moment.

Plus our Prez said that PSA doesn't do Hub bases beyond CLT. He's not really happy with DCA. So our next base will most likely be ORF or SAV.

flybywp 01-23-2018 07:19 PM

If you read the AA 3Q SOTA Q&A, it clearly states Piedmont and PSA will be the predominant regionals out of PHL. I could see PSA getting a PHL base, but not Envoy. As for the 190s, it's all speculation at this point but I would expect AA to further increase both RAH and PSA 76 seat flying out of PHL.

This. Envoy will not see PHL. PDT and RAH will be the big players in PHL. PDT will be shifting flying from ROA to PHL and RAH will also be shifting flying to PHL. Envoy will not be part of any PHL plans. Any northeast expansion plans will be mainly NY.

This will be more of the same - PDT and RAH have been PHL stalwarts for years, and are just picking up the slack from AWAC. We will see some fly through to cover a handful of old AWAC routes and a couple new ones (PHL-JFK) until PDT can handle everything with our old 145s.

Nevermind the ridiculousness of you, someone who wasn’t at Envoy when that happened telling off a PSA pilot who was also not on property when said “hosing” happened.
