Commuting to ORD from DTW/FNT?
It shouldn’t be too bad, being a short flight? Am I gonna get screwed by winter weather? Considering Envoy over DTW regionals because I like the security of the flow. Or, is driving 5 hours before and after a trip crazy?

Well my show is 10am, I'm up at 3am to make my commute, that's 7 hours. So 5 hour drive would depend wear tear on car, toll cost and fuel cost. They add up fast.

One has to be flexible, watch the weather, bunch up trips/days off.
Often it can cost a handful of hours on each end getting to work, then home. One only gets so many misses, especially on probation. While still positioning for long term, no need to move everywhere. Eventually I’d move somewhere within a two hour drive, unless you own the 3 generation, 900 acre family ranch. |

There is no way in hell that I'd do that. The plows don't keep the roads as clean at 2am as they do at 2pm. That being said, there are other folks for whom that seems to work well. YMMV. |

From my experience and talking with people over the years, it is arguably one of the hardest commutes we have. So many people non-revving back and forth not only for work but also personal travel.
Be sure to give yourself lots of chances. It does have one perk in that they often run at least one or two 787 flights a day back and forth which have the three jump seats. |

I am leaving now, lol. |
We have quite a few DTW commuters. Between Delta, United, and American there are a tremendous number of opportunities to get to work. FNT isn’t as busy as it used to be, but still has a few flights. With 22 flights today, your best bet is DTW for sure.

Not sure about your situation, but you are giving up a lot of QOL and pay for flow. Being in DTW, you have several other options that will advance your career with more flying time and pay with a lot less stress.
Long before you'd flow through Envoy, you'll be competitive at Spirit, Kalitta, and eventually Delta and United by flying for Skywest or Endeavor; all without the headache of commuting. |
