No injuries reported.

Oops! Stay safe everyone...ugly day in ORD

TiredSoul 11-11-2019 07:13 AM

Did they check the QRH?

PilotCinnamon 11-11-2019 07:20 AM

Glad everyone is alright.

123494 11-11-2019 07:24 AM

Reading people's replies to the video of the incident makes me SMH. Distasteful on many levels.

buddies8 11-11-2019 07:52 AM

My first question is being that's a 145, were reversed deployed and what was the rcam.

FlyPurdue 11-11-2019 08:23 AM

Just a quick PSA - remember that this is a public site, and there have been journalists poking around here recently re: MAX. I suggest that we not post anything regarding how we operate the E145, and avoid all speculation. I am thankful that there was no injuries.

👆 This. Exactly. Be careful what you post on a public forum. This could have happened to any one of us. Be safe out there folks!

Breaking action Zero...

Flap 22 landing on a contaminated runway?

Yep
Should have asked To see if there was a delta pilot on frequency to offer assistance.

imthecaptainnow 11-11-2019 10:37 AM

They obviously didn’t read Swaynes article on icy runways..

Flightaware appears to show it going around on the first attempt.

Glad everyone made it off the plane safely. Let's keep the crew in our thoughts and realize things can happen to any of us.

I’m sure he has a vast wealth of knowledge to share, with his extensive experience operating on icy and snow covered runways since coming to the airlines.

Yes. Look at the winds. It’s a long runway and numbers work.

It isn't about numbers, but how flaps 45 helps the aircraft "plant” on the runway in crappy conditions.

HollandJ 11-11-2019 12:43 PM

I wonder how junior the crew was. Hopefully it wasn't a forced DEC in the left with a RTP in the right seat.

Briefing sounded like this.....

CA:"Hey I've never landed on snow or ice have you?"

FO:"Me neither, hell I don't even know how to use the rudder"

CA:"Let's give it a shot, how hard can it be"

If you work here, some of what you "wonder" you can look up.

I do NOT suggest anyone post here what you find if you do though.

What’s wrong with that?

FlyPurdue 11-11-2019 02:17 PM

I do recommend we all review electronic page 264.D of FM1.

NoValueAviator 11-11-2019 02:37 PM

Odds they get fired?

While always good to review such things, what were the wind and visibility and runway conditions being reported at the time? I've seen news reports that said it was windy with light snow and the video shows 'stuff' on the runway, but that's not really all that helpful.

Well it depends, was there a VIP on the plane?

What happened to not litigating this in a public forum?

Discussing this publicly is not my intention. I tried to be vague so only Envoy pilots would know what I was alluding to. That page saved me a few times when I first upgraded, as I did not even know it existed until my first winter as Captain.

I understand your concern, and my own apparent contradiction. I will delete it if it gives too much info.

APC225 11-11-2019 04:51 PM

Don’t passengers know they’re not supposed to video. In portrait mode.

I hope ORD will re-evaluate if that runway really was 5/5/5 as they said in the ATIS.
"RWY 10L, COND CODE, 5 5 5 AT, 1215Z". This was still posted on the 1451Z ATIS.

I’d be SHOCKED if it was. That runway looked nearly 100% covered in that vid. Either way, no one was hurt. Props to the crew.

I don’t think your comment gives too much away, and it would only be understood by someone with access to FM-1. I’m just afraid it’ll open up a conversation that shouldn’t be had here. Not everyone has that same level of tact.

Tower needs to reconsider their reports. "RCC is 5/5/5, braking medium to poor at N3 and 4" That wasn't accurate at all, obviously.
And winds were reported at 360 at 17G24.

555 can change to NIL in a matter of seconds. It’s always up to the PIC.

I'm just saying they weren't intentionally breaking any regs or FM1 limitations. They were just given information that wasn't correct.
They were calling 18kt winds with no gusts only a few minutes after the event.

I hear you. It’s very frustrating not knowing how slippery it is under your toes.

I was once told the FICON report was 555, and just below it was a PIREP saying braking action poor to nil with 500 foot from running off the end of the runway.

It’s all up to us i suppose.

It’s frustrating

It's a shame one of the busiest airports in the world can't provide a FICON that's less than an hour old, especially when PIREPs are calling for much worse braking action.
5/5/5 my stinking a**.

They ran off the runway before the point where tower called "medium to poor". So I think they had a reason to believe the action before that was "5".

You mean Envoy hasn't fired them yet, regardless of whether it would be fair to do so? What gives?
