I'm not grasping your question. If you live in CMH go to Envoy. If you live in PHL go to PDT. Reserve will be longer at PDT but driving to work is still driving to work.

another thing is their base close to CMH is ORD, PDT have PHL which is close to CMH but don't know if there are daily flights to commute.

I'm not sure why you are limiting it to 145s, CRJs are practically the same airplane.

As far as the 50-seater world goes, I'm less concerned about the top line hourly rate, and more concerned about the bottom line. Flying 50 seaters, you can make more money at most other places despite the lower hourly rates. They make up for it with more productive lines, huge sign-on and retention bonuses, better pay protection, more premium pay, etc. An extra 30 hours of soft pay more than makes up the difference in hourly rates.

Or, you know, drive to work at CMH with the Republic base and make $50/hr.

Coming over from PSA

Thinking about coming to envoy from psa for a DFW base. I live in the DFW area and wondering if it’s worth it?

No, because you will be displaced the NY 145 CA and won’t see DFW for quite a while.

How many years have you been at PSA? If basically a new hire then MAYBE it’s worth it.

yeah basically a new hire 7 months with PSA, so DFW is not doable?

If you play your cards right, you might get to keep your AAG employee number.

Your best shot is having enough 121 time to still get a 175. You’ll probably end up in ORD and can get to DFW in three to six months. Then you stay on reserve avoiding flying so you can upgrade on the 175 and stay in DFW.

But it is all very much a crap shoot.

No matter what airplane you get started on, you probably won’t spend too much time in DFW before you're forced-upgraded to the 145 in LGA, maybe ORD, commuting on reserve. It will be a while before you can get back to DFW.

Keep your seniority at PSA, stay over there. You’ll be commuting at Envoy too.

this
from what I gather, not that many hours in the first 7 months at PSA, so "omg 145 lga" might not apply

7 months... is that 7 months from hire date? Or 7 months from hitting the line. That's a pretty big difference.

Anyway, if the former, probably really low 121 time. Bid a 145 on your hire date and bid reserve monthly until your hire class peers catch up. Should get DFW pretty quick... not in class but probably on the first bid after. Reserve rules are really bad here but mainly on commuters. If you live in base, with just a little bit of seniority, life isn't all that bad on reserve.

Fonzo 01-24-2020 09:48 PM

Reserve on each is different

Ok so CMH is home, and if we compare Envoy juniour base which would likely be ORD but reserve time is long vs Peidmont juniour base which likely would be PHL and reserve is 3 months if am not mistakened.
which is better in terms of pay hense flying and reserve time.
Thank you in advance

Chose Envoy, the commute from CMH to ORD is much easier than CMH to PHL.

But seriously 01-25-2020 02:29 AM

I don’t know enough about PSA to argue PSA v ENY. I do know that commuting “down” a time zone helps a lot. ORD also has two airline hubs versus one in PHL. That equates to twice the flights (plus MDW as a side bonus emergency outlet).

UncreativeUser 01-25-2020 08:21 AM

Come to Envoy cause the commute from ORD is easy and we also do overnights there and we have a Mx base there as well, so you’ll even get paid to overnight at home

Agreed, Same. Commuted from FWA to ORD. Super easy with the 1hr time change/gain, plus being both united and American hub. I overnighted soo many times in worthington, you’ll get home a lot.

CMH being home is a key piece of information. Why the heck isn't Republic at the top of your list? After Republic, PSA in DAY is a short enough drive away to be reserve at home. You will have much better QOL and make more money there without giving up flow. Endeavor is an easy commute with better QOL, and looks like they are opening CVG.

For the Envoy vs PDT discussion, I'd take Envoy. At that point it's really like picking your 5th or 6th favorite color. PHL seems to be a fairly miserable place to operate and your commute is probably limited compared to commuting to other hubs. ORD should be an easy commute, but if you are looking at ORD, you have plenty of other regionals to consider.

Why did the pbs topic get removed? Seemed like it was going fine.

Dman2141 01-26-2020 05:05 PM

How does bidding for bases work at envoy? You do it every month and it takes effect 3 months later or are you seat locked in certain airframe for certain bases? Trying to figure out if I’ll be able to get Dfw as an FO and captain in a reasonable timeframe of about 3-5 months.

The dude started the exact same thread in every single regional thread, mail merge style.

Initial bid on day 1 for equipment and base. We typically do a vacancy bid every 3 months, but FOs can only change bases, not fleet type. Base transfers don't incur a seat lock. Time from award to base transfer varies at company discretion from next month to several months down the road.

If you get the 175, the growth is in ORD, but it seems reasonable that DFW would be available every vacancy bid. If you get the 145, prepare to be a nomad as you'll probably start in LGA, transfer to ORD, then transfer to DFW. That will take a while, anywhere from 6-12 months probably.
